I wonder if this is what Shady Grove is recruiting for right now.  I've gotten several emails from them recently looking for patients with repeated IVF failures despite having good-quality blasts.

I haven't inquired further about it because we have only one failed IVF and didn't even have one good blast.

I've seen it too.  The Center down here in Virginia was discussing prices with the company.  I wonder if that will raise the price too.  Its awesome to see how far IVF has come though

I'm not sure if I'm clear on how this is different than PGS testing? PGS testing can now be done in 24 hours in time for a fresh transfer, and it only cost us 2200 for ten embryos, not even close to 6000 for thirteen embryos as mentioned in the article. I'm always interested in new genetic or chromosomal screening technologies. Anyone know what's new about this?

The way that I took this article, and I am probably making a lot of assumptions, is that if it proves to work well that it would be performed as standard testing on every patient. I think PGS is done on less than the majority of cases and only performed where there is a known or highly suspected reason to do it but this new testing would be done on everyone or at least offered for a cheaper price than PGS. I could be off base but that is how I read it.

I was wondering this also.  Today I've been doing some digging around about "next-generation sequencing" and have really only come up with the idea that it is kind of building on PGS and PGD, improving technology and making it more efficient, affordable, and standard.  I found the abstract to a medical journal article (I don't have full access to the article) that says:

Largely because of efforts required to complete the Human Genome Project, DNA sequencing has undergone a steady transformation with still-ongoing developments of high-throughput sequencing machines for which the cost per reaction is falling drastically. Similarly, the fast-changing landscape of reproductive technologies has been improved by genetic approaches. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening were established more than two decades ago for selecting genetically normal embryos to avoid inherited diseases and to give the highest potential to achieve stable pregnancies. Most recent additions to the IVF practices (blastocyst/trophectoderm biopsy, embryo vitrification) and adoption of new genetics tools such as array comparative genome hybridization have allowed setting up more precise and efficient programs for clinical embryo diagnosis. Nevertheless, there is always room for improvements. Remarkably, a recent explosion in the release of advanced sequencing benchtop platforms, together with a certain maturity of bioinformatics tools, has set the target goal of sequencing individual cells for embryo diagnosis to be a realistically feasible scenario for the near future. I haven't been there since April. I took a break after my first IVF attempt was converted to an IUI but I am starting back up again so I will be there constantly soon! So same old crap as far as I know! How are things at RMA?

RMA is good. I just finally had a lap (saw a RE for the first time THREE years ago) and SHOCKER, I had a ton of endo everywhere.....

Omg. How are you feeling? Did they want to remove it before moving ahead, I guess? That is a fear of mine. My RE thinks I have mild endo since it isn't in any if the ultrasounds or tests that I have had but he doesn't want to do lap to confirm that it's not severe. Doesn't make sense. They said since I was moving into IVF the treatment would be the same.
