No weight gain

I have only gained 6lbs and I'll be 6 months next week. I'm getting a little worried. The nurse didn't think anything was wrong with my weight last month but I'm still the same weight and I'm not sure if that's normal anymore. I'm 5ft 3in and weighed 134 prepregnancy and I've been at 140 for the last 2 months. Please tell me I'm over thinking this and everything is fine.
Note: I feel DD kick all day everyday. And I haven't had and morning sickness but my appetite is nowhere close to what it was 6 months ago. I have a dr's appt next week, should I just wait until I get there or do I need to call them with my concerns!???

Re: No weight gain

  • Ask at your next appointment.  If they are not worried, I wouldn't worry.

  • Thanks, I'm glad I go in next week to finally meet with the doctor again I haven't seen him since May.
  • Your weight gain is going to fluctuate.  I'm up 20lbs. at 26 weeks, but between my 16-20 week appointments I had gained 12lbs., and then between 20-26 weeks only 2lbs.  If they're not concerned, I'm sure you're fine!

  • Don't worry. They will tell you if they are concerned. You're still gaining weight. I'm still down two lbs, without ever being sick, and my Drs said, it's not a concern yet. When I go in at my next appointment, they want to see a few lbs gained, and if not, they will discuss more with me. I know several people who didn't gain hardly anything until the 3rd trimester.

  • Thanks ladies you have really calmed my nerves! It's not that I WANT to be bigger especially with my wedding in 3 weeks but I want my DD healthy and strong no matter what size I am.
  • I have only gained 1lb since my first appointment. I am 23 weeks. My doctor has not mentioned any concern.

Everyone's body is different, as is every pregnancy. My very close friend was the same as you. She stayed in her size ZERO jeans throughout her pregnancy [unbuttoned]. If your doctors aren't concerned, I'm sure you and baby are just fine. I totally understand why you would be worried about it though! I'm sure you get a LOT of unsolicited "advice" from people telling you it's not normal. Maybe it's not "normal" for the "average" pregnancy, but it's YOUR pregnancy, so try not to stress out of your body is doing something different.

My friend and her baby were perfectly fine, by the way!

    Best of luck

I'm almost 28 weeks and as of last Thursday, was only +1 from pp weight.  My Dr. hasn't even mentioned it.  I lost a few lbs. initially, then slowly gained a lb. or 2 back here and there.

A coworker of mine was basically the same as me, gained no net weight and had/has a healthy boy.

  • I'm up 10 pounds at 25 weeks. My dr is not concerned. I was small to begin with so it's to be expected. He said he'd be happy if I even came close to 20 pounds extra by the end. But it's nothing to worry about.

As others have said, there shouldn't be anything wrong; but bring it up at your next appointment since you're concerned.

I'm 5'6 and I currently weigh 125lbs at 27 weeks 5 days. I look like I've gained way more weight than I have, and my OB is not concerned in the least. Everyone's body is different.
