A new kid working at our local sprayground asked someone to cover up this weekend so she has organized a nurse in next month. I thought that only happened on TB.
I will not be going a) because L can't nurse in public anymore, my nip would just be hanging out all the time, and b) I am there several times a week working out at the gym and really don't want to deal with any nonsense after.
Regardless, I am kind of excited I was invited. ha!
Re: I was invited to a real life Nurse in
I feel like sometimes people organize protests over something that a simple call to a manager would fix. Like this--this kid was probably just trying to do his job and didn't realize this was a no-go. And he's probably really embarrassed right now. Mistakes happen. It's not like the park put up a "Nursing Moms: Cover your Ta Tas" sign or something.
Then again, I find nurse-ins kind of obnoxious regardless. It's like the attitude is "This is normal, I think it's normal, you must accept it, and I don't care if it makes you uncomfortable," which even though I agree that people should be ok with NIP, deciding for someone else that they can't feel uncomfortable with it feels disrespectful. It's kind of an ironic turn of close-mindedness.
And I NIP with a cover all.the.time and have no issue with others doing so sans cover if their kid needs to eat, so it's not like I think NIP is wrong.
I think if one kid asked me to cover up, I'd have an issue with him/her, and not necessarily with the whole big organization. A lot of times people are poorly trained and don't know the laws or whatever. And then management apologizes...you know? I don't see the need for any kind of protest, NIP or otherwise, unless the organization has a problem with it and supports the employee.
