DH and I went out today and some "fun" shopping around and one of the places we stopped at is a college surplus/warehouse store so we took the stroller in for DS. Since I recently had shoulder surgery DH was doing everything which included getting DS I and out if the car as well as the stroller. At the last stop I opened that hatch and there was no stroller! Turns out DH forgot to load it in the car after putting DS in his carseat. They are closed until Monday, so we won't know until then if some Good Samaritan turned it in to the office of the store or not. I'm kinda secretly glad that he forgot but also extremely pied that he forgot since its part of a 300 plus travel system and we don't have much extra money right now, but at the same time I get to choose a new one if it did not get turned in.
So my question, DH and I are actively ttc2 right now so a part of me is thinking we should get a double stroller if we end up getting a new one, but the other part is saying get a single then if we get KU in a couple months buy a double stroller then. The logically side says buy the double stroller now because we have several family and friends with little ones that we hang out with often and it would be nice to use one stroller as opposed to two when we are at the zoo or somewhere then if and when baby number 2 comes we won't have to have the extra expense of buying a double stroller. I found a couple double strollers that are marked down and would cost the same amount as a single stroller so I'm leaning towards a double if Monday comes with bad news. Thoughts?
Re: WWS12d?
We have a cheaply umbrella but I'm 6' and DH is 6'6" so we hunch trying to push it and look silly. I use that for doc visits mostly since most exam rooms are tiny.
Buying a single when in all likelihood you'll need a double in another year or so just seems silly to me. But if I was going to buy another single, I'd probably scrounge something from a consignment shop or yard sale, not buy something full-priced.
I'm looking at the baby trend sit and stand stroller. I haven't seen or heard of the single stroller that can be a double stroller later if need be; I'll have to check those out. I have always felt like the single stroller doesn't have enough room for stuff when I'm out shopping at the mall so I'm leaning heavy towards a double for the above mentioned reasons and the fact that I seem to run out of room with the single stroller we had.
Thanks for all the responses and suggestions!!
My kids are 22 months apart and we hardly ever use our doubles but use our single stroller all the time. We use our double jogger that I just bought at a garage sale because I started running again and it is the only way DH and I can do 5k's without hiring a baby sitter. But other than that, I would never say a double is a necessity. We just went on vacation and I wore DS2 because we didn't bring a stroller and it was no big deal to wear him at 9 months.
I would look for an inexpensive single stroller that you like on craigslist. Like pp, if you think you will use a double a lot, look for one that can add a jump seat for a future child if you find you need it.
