Not what I expected

Had my glucose appt today and I thought this would be an easy breezy appt.

Nope, everything went downhill when the nurse asked about movement and I said I don't feel him all the time, sometimes hours go by and nothing. The nurse was looking at me like I was crazy and said I should be feeling constant movement since week 20 and they are probably going to have to put a monitor on me. So at this point I start getting a tad worried and upset.

Fast forward to the dr coming in and saying I've gained too much weight first time any if the doctors said anything about my weight and I'm only allowed to gain 5 more lbs the rest of the pregnancy. So now I'm getting more upset.

Dr checks heartbeat and says it sounds great but now wants to do an US just to check for movement.

Movement looked great on the US and they checked to see if I have an anterior placenta which I don't so they basically told me its just me not paying attention. Wow thanks that makes me feel great.

So yeah great start to my day off, at least got to see LO today.

yay to seeing baby! sorry way to terrify you! I don't feel movement constantly either don't worry. Also my doctor told me I shouldn't gain ANY weight this pregnancy. I was like ok great thanks!

Omg, I saw your HDBD and you look great, why did they tell you not to gain weight?
I almost wanted to say well the girls on the bump say its normal not to feel movement all the time lol. I'm sure that would have gone over well.

  • Jeez they were a bunch of downers! Glad everything is ok with baby. Unless you are sitting on your butt all day I highly doubt you'd notice baby moving. You'd be distracted by, i dunno, Life. Like crossing the street with out getting hit by a car.

What?!?! Constant movement? I've never heard that, and if it's true I guess we're all in trouble! What a horrible way to start your day, not to mention it seems like they were pretty rude in the way they told you. Had your Dr had a concern about your weight gain, he should have addressed it prior to today! Try not to let it bum you out, and I agree you look great! Boo to rude people!
  • Oops I meant consistent movement but even so I didn't think that was true especially since week 20.

I've found that sometimes a doctor or nurse will just be in a more pessimistic mood on a given day and they'll scare the crap out of any patient they come across.nbsp; It sucks that both your doctor and the nurse managed to upset you for no reason.nbsp; If your baby's heartbeat sounded good and the u/s looked good, then there was nothing wrong and they were just being...let's call it overcautious, if you want to be kind about it.

I think you're right. I never saw this nurse or OB before. The nurse seemed very dry and was just rattling through questions. The OB was like a robot who couldn't wait to get out if the room. After every answer to a question I asked he kept saying, " well is that all? "

But important thing is everything looked great with LO !!

That movement concern is crazy! I am 23 weeks and I feel him move maybe the morning and evening. Not continual or constant through out the day. I have been told that he still has plenty of room so that I may not be feeling everything and that he takes sleeping spells because of growth. I bet you were frazzled by the time you got out of there!

I was overweight to when I got pregnant and my doctor told me I still needed to gain around 15 pounds. Cause other wise the baby is taking completely from your fat storage which can cause lower birth weights.  At least that is what my doctor said.

  • Glad everything turned out okay in the end, at least.
  • That is crazy! If no consistent movement was an issue, I would be in big trouble!  My doc said yesterday not to worry at all that I just feel him every so often, and that some women barely feel their baby throughout the pregnancy.  Sorry you had such a bad experience at your visit!

yea I HATE this doc haha, I like all the other ones but this one is a real arse. I said I wanted a midwife just to avoid getting him if he is on call when I go into labor. I told myself I could gain about 15 lbs based on what I read ignoring the doc. but we will see when all is said and done haha as long as baby is healthy I don't care that much.

To be honest I really don't think we have that much control over how much we gain. I mean, eating super healthy will probably help. But, in the end you are going to gain what you are going to gain and it doesn't matter what the doctor says you are "allowed to gain". Everyone is different and that is all there is to it. As long as baby is doing good and you aren't chowing down on chips and ice cream at every meal you should be good. Am I right?

  • I think that nurse is crazy!! I tell people the LO is moving constantly but in reality there are waves these babies sleep like 14 hours a day!! And they move more when your not moving. The articles on kick counts tell you, you will notice patterns in the times baby moves. My dr said the same things the kick count articles told me. I think that nurse needs some sensitivity training. Also I can't believe your dr said 5 more lbs till the end and this is the first time he has talked about weight! Jerk
