Letrozole

My OB prescribed Letrozole for me to take for ovulation.  I just had the prescription filled and was reading the info sheet which said it is for the treatment of breast cancer.  I trust my OB and all, but is this safe to take??

Letrozole (Femera) is a breast cancer drug, but it can also be used to help induce ovulation.

Have you had all of the basic IF testing done?  This includes CD 3 blood work (FSH, TSH, E2, LH, prolactin, and usually AMH), HSG, and a SA for your DH. 

Are you being monitored during your cycle?  While Letrozole has fewer side effects than clomid (another fertility drug popular with OBs), you need to be monitored to know how well you are responding and to make sure that you do not have cysts going into the cycle.

If your OB has not done all of the basic testing and/or is not going to monitor you, I would look for a RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist).  OBs are great for taking care of you when you are pregnant, but REs are experts at treating infertility.

According to her previous posts she stopped BC in July 2012 and has been dx with PCOS.
