morning sickness

Has anyone figure out anything besides saltines and Vernors?

btwI think morning sickness is a misnomer!

Re: morning sickness

  • My sickness has been mostly nausea when I'm hungry, so I eat something bland like goldfish, saltines, natural applesauce or nuts as soon as I feel a hunger. I also eat a snack when I wake up in the middle of the night I notice a big difference if I don't. Also brown rice, Gatorade.... It's worked for me. Mac n cheese. Toast with butter and honey when I wake up.

  • I have to make sure I'm constantly eating - like every two hours I eat a SMALL meal. I have been mixing lemon seltzer water and natural lemonade for a delicious drink, bc it's very hard for me to keep down water. Also, hard candies - like jolly ranchers and peppermints have been great. Honestly, whatever you can eat and whatever you are craving - eat it right then and there. I have found that if I am craving a grilled cheese but don't eat it when I want it, and then eat it later, when I am no longer craving it, it makes me feel sick, or if I eat something other than what I am craving, it makes me sick.

The first tri is all about survival - if all you can choke down is fries and greasy foods, then eat what you can and just make sure you are taking your prenatals!

Second tip though, are you taking prenatals? If so, are you taking them in the mornings? Try switching them to at night, or my OB suggested stopping taking them for 3 days to see if that helps at all.

    Good luck!

  • I agree with all of the above ... only now in week 12 have I discovered what helps me the most is eating late at night. It goes against my instinct that you're not supposed to eat late at night but it has saved me. I also finally gave in and got a Zofran prescription. I try not to take it unless I absolutely need to, but it is amazing... just get ready to be a bit constipated.. but you wont be sick and puking!!
