FTM here.. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
How do I know what size nursing bra should I get for the hospital and the 1st week or so? Same size as I am now? 1 cup size up?
Don't buy them until a few weeks postpartum. Your breasts will get huge, and I mean pornstar huge after birth when your milk first comes in. Then after a few weeks of nursing and establishing a supply (remember BM is a supply and demand kind of thing, your body needs a few weeks to figure out your LO's needs), your breasts will probably get a bit smaller and they will likely stay that size until you wean.
Just buy some nursing tanks and sleep bras to tide you over, unless you want to spend money twice. If you must get one nursing bra, be sure to get a very unstructured bra (absolutely no underwire and minimal padding). You don't want it to be tight in any way as this can cause clogged ducts, especially early on.
There's really no way of knowing. Everyone is different. I only went up one cup size and my band size stayed the same.
For the hospital/ first couple weeks just get some sleeping nursing bras. I had some medela ones. Get them maybe a size up, they are stretchy and each size accommodates a range of sizes so you can ball park it and not need to know your specific size like you do when purchasing real bras.
