Just got home from my first prenatal massage. It was heavenly. I felt so pampered and it was exactly what I needed. I've been feeling very sore/stiff and have had some lower back pain, so my midwife recommended getting a massage. I'm so glad I went!
Another bonus is that my massage therapist is a doula and is in midwifery school. Since her doula certification isn't complete until later this summer, she may be able to attend my birth pro bono. I'm so excited that this is a possibility because I think having a doula there will be so helpful, but we were on the fence about spending so much money on it.
Anyways - just wanted to say that if you have been considering a prenatal massage, DO IT!!!
Re: Prenatal Massage
no, not at all (I'm still sleeping on my stomache at this point). She actually had this big pillow type thing set up on the bed that supports you and has hollowed out spots for your bump and boobs. I didn't need it at this point though, so she took it down. As pp mentioned, laying on your side in a supported position is an option too.
I have a gift card that I'm hoping to use in the next two weeks--I got them once a month last pregnancy and it really helped.
Yes the pressure points on your feet can cause you to go into labor if the person isn't trained in pregnancy massage. I had two different massage therapists remind of this when I started to get into the third trimester.
