I am at work yesterday. Everything is going good. Our new worker comes in and everything I ask her to do she replies "oh I can take that home with me". I was also raised not to order my elders around (she is in her 60s) so I am uncomfortable saying " Um, no, you can't. The things I ask you to do need to be done when they are assigned. Besides, we are not allowed to take work home." So instead, I fly around trying to do both her job and mine.
Flash forward a couple of hours. The heat index outside is about 101 degrees and 100% humidity. Our building is having air conditioner problems and can't cool down under about 78-79 degrees. I haven't eaten in over 5 hours, nor had a break or chance to even sit at my desk. I started to get dizzy, clammy skin, and sick to my stomach. I finally hid in the back room in the dark with a cold towel on my neck.
I get through the rest of the day and head home to my moms to get my DD. She makes me lie down for an hour. When I wake up it is 7:30 at night. I have not eaten since noon (and then only a small fry and coke). All I want is to eat something. I can barely stand up with out leaning on something. My mom tells me she is cooking and it will be ready "in just a min". She decides to wait on her husband who is tinkering with his toys in the barn. 8:30 rolls around and in walks my step dad. Mom says "now we can start cooking! Poor Lolinshag is ready to eat" He says "When did we start claiming her and her DD on taxes?"
I lost it. I started sobbing and couldn't stop. My mother was asking what was wrong. They didn't know I had heard them. I grabbed my daughter told her I couldn't wait any longer. I went to the gas station (they usually have hamburgers and chicken strips, etc) They had already cleaned everything out. I had nothing at my house. I couldn't drive to the nearest town because my mother in law has my car seat for DD. I cried all night long. Could not stop.
This morning I get up for work. My mother-in-law is supposed to come get DD since she has my f'in car seat. And of course she is late. So again I have not eaten. It has been 23 hours now. I am about to loose my cool on the next person who walk up and says anything even remotely stupid to me.
Who wants to win Bumpie of the century and bring me a Wendy's Baconator?
Re: Bad day(s)...LONG
I really think you need to get over the "not ordering around your elders." At work your coworkers are just coworkers and there's no reason you need to tiptoe around one because they're older than you. She needs to do her job and you need to do yours, not both yours and hers.
Also, maybe think about packing some snacks with you if you're busy at work. Nuts, pb sandwich, etc with high protein will be helpful if you don't have much time to eat.
I do think it's crappy what your moms husband said. I probably would have cried and left too.
Maybe get some grocery shopping done this weekend and stock up on quick meals or snacks so that you're not in a situation where there's nothing to eat at home.
Hope today's a better day for you!
