Trying to Get Pregnant

BBT recommendations

Hubby and I are on cycle 14 of our ttc journey and I am getting frustrated with my BBT thermometer.  I have the cheapest one from Walmart and it seems my temps are always very low - never more than 97.8ish even after I notice a temp shift possibly indicating O.

I want to try taking my temps vaginally - I want to get a good thermometer before my next cycle.  What brands do you use that you like?

Me: 26 DH: 27 Married 5/5/12 TTC#1 since 5/5/12 DH: SA 10/5/12 (had cause for concern) came back perfect! Guess it's up to me now. Anniversary image

Re: BBT recommendations

  • Most people on the board seem to prefer the mabis. Mine is on its way, about 7 dollars on amazon. I can't give you experience, but I can tell you I picked the brand since that's what I see suggested here!

I use the generic CVS digital thermometer. But, I did want to say that I rarely get a temperature in the 98s. Even after I ovulate, my temperature maxes out at 97.8 or so.

I use the Mabis and this is how my temps have always been as well. OP, you may just have slightly lower temps. Nothing to worry about!
  • My temps have ranged from 95.95 to 97.9. I temp orally and am a mouth breather, which I believe makes temps generally lower. I have a Walgreens generic BBT thermometer. I started being suspicious about it's accuracy when I kept hitting the exact same numbers (instead of varying several 100ths of a degree). When I read the info sheet that came with it, I discovered that for the temp range I'm in, it's actually only accurate to + or - 0.3 degrees!! I've been considering starting a thread that asks others to read the fine print (if they have it) that came with their thermometers to see what the accuracy really is for other brands.

All that being said, I'm not really worried about it at this point b/c I can still see a clear temp shift on my chart. HTH!

  • I've never had a temp higher than 98.1, and usually my high temp is 97.9. As long as you see a shift I wouldn't worry.

  • I got mine from CVS, had it about a months since I broke my other one. I like it so far. No issues and do not see that much of a difference from my old one.  Dont remember the name of my old one.

I went to a few different stores and CVS was the only place I found one.

  • As the manufacturer of this thermometer, we would also like to point out that for our Nexcare(TM) Thermometers are accurate to +/- 0.2 degrees F.  Other manufacturers might have a difference in about a tenth of a degree but no thermometer manufacturer makes a claim that their product is accurate to hundredths of a degree.  It is possible to run at the same temperature.  We do advise that a person takes their temperature at the same time every day to find a base line for their body.  A person can be consist within a small enough range to the point that they will read the same temperature every day.  You may want to consult with your doctor as well for help on this.

    Thanks
