I've been stressed about having to do the 1 hour all this week....I had mine this morning (btw the orange flavor is horrible next time I will stick with the nurse's recommendation of lime) and I now I have to do the 3-hour test. I hope I am one of the 85% of the failures that passes the 3-hour.
Re: So bummed!
Bummer! What did you have for breakfast? Could that have been part of it?
Also--what is the 3 hour like? I've never had to do it, and I'm scared to!

I did mine right away in the morning, so they told me not to eat anything before hand.
But for the 3 hour you drink the same amount but it has twice the amount of sugar in it than the 1 hour. With the 3 hour they will also take your blood 4 times. Once before you drink the gd drink, then every hour post drink. With the 3-hour you have to fast and not eat anything past 8 pm (at least that's what my doctor wanted me to do).

It'll be ok. I had to take the 3 hour Wednesday. It's not all that bad to be honest. Sign up for one of the first appointments in the morning (mine was at 7:15). Fast after midnight. They'll take a blood draw before you drink the stuff to see where your levels start, have you drink the stuff and time you for an hour. Make sure you don't puke it up or you'll have to do it all over again on a different day! The first hour was the most difficult trying to keep it down. I'd suggest bringing an ipad or tablet with Netflix on it, most definitely made the time go faster with comedy! Also, bring a small pillow and blanket, best be comfy if you're going to be there for a few hours. You'll get your 2nd vial drawn at the 1 hour mark, then go wait for another hour and have the 3rd then wait another hour and have the 4th drawn. After the 1st hour draw you'll feel a lot better. I actually physically felt better while taking the 3 hour test vs the 1 hour.
I got my results yesterday (1 day later). The nurse said my body seems to process sugar a bit slower than what the 1 hour test would allow. She said my 1st hour draw from the 3 hour test was the highest and then it leveled out in the subsequent draws. Just make sure you drink a lot of water the day before to stay hydrated through your fast! You should be able to have ice chips while you're doing the test. Relax and let your body do its job, everyone metabolizes at different rates and that's why you take the longer test. You'll be fine!
Thanks for your awesome tips :-)
