Too much toe curling?

At the boys' 6 month appointment today, the pediatrician commented on how they are tensing their feet more over time, rather than relaxing them. I had actually noticed this too, how the babies curl their toes a lot and, when holding them up, they try to walk on their tip-toes. She told me to massage their feet several times a day for a month and then to come back in (w/ L specifically, though she advised that I massage N's feet too). She says if there isn't a change, L might need physical therapy. She also mentioned that it is common with twins b/c they had less room in utero so they got used to being extra scrunched up.

Just curious, have any of you MoMs experienced this? How did everything turn out? Did the foot massages do the trick? TIA!

Re: Too much toe curling?

  • This is interesting. One of my guys curls his toes big time. My smaller guy can walk beautifully by holding our hands or using a push toy but his brother curls toes and when he stands is on his tip toes also. He just recently started trying to walk more but does it very ridigly and doesn't bend his knees and takes very large steps (picture a robot). I've been growing concerned that it might be tight muscles or I've heard of short tendons in the calves? I have their 1 year appt in 2 weeks so was going to mention this but I'm interested in hearing others experience. Thanks for posting this.
