As a soon-to-be FTM, I'm hoping to get some advice from the experts... I was originally planning to get a co-sleeper for the first few months, but have now decided on a bassinet. To avoid getting more items than we need... I'm wondering if our pack'n'play with the added features would essentially work the same as a stand alone bassinet? (link below for pack'n'play). Or would I still likely want a separate bassinet? Are they better space and quality, etc for the baby?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
Re: Pack n Play w/ bassinet feature
Ditto all this BUT we bought a rock and play after a few days home from the hospital. It cradled LO so she slept better and it was small enough and perfect height right beside the bed so night feeds, and learning her noises, were much easier.
Also our LO hates her bouncer but still loves the rock and play so we use it throughout the house when we need to put her down because it's light weight an easy to move.
All in all she slept in the RNP every night for 7 weeks and was in the PNP bassinet for 3 weeks before we dropped her down to the mattress part.
A couple of things we learned as FTP... We used the pnp for the first 4 weeks and thenmoved him to his crib because we heard every little move he made... I have since learned they make pnp sheets!!! Total FTM learning experience!!!
We are still dealing with the fact that LOs like smaller spaces so while our LO did ok in the pnp in the begining, we started to have the problem where he would only sleep in our arms. We then moved him to his crib where he did fine for a couple of days but we started having the problem again... ALOT of people here swear by the Rock n Play because of how it cradles but we don't want to spend more money on more baby items that will clutter... we've started using his swing for the same purpose.
Basically, moral of our story is have something they will sleep inthat cradles closely for when you just can't hold them anymore!!!
That's the exact one we bought and it was great -- we had it in our room, next to my side of the bed, and he slept in the newborn napper until he was about 8 weeks. As an added bonus, James has slight reflux, so the fact that the napper was at a very gentle angle helped him a ton. And he liked the vibrations when he was falling asleep.
At about 8 weeks we transitioned him to his crib in his room and we have had zero issues with that. We removed the napper and the changer from the top of the PnP and it is still in our room for time when I need to take a shower or set him down for a bit etc. Just safer than setting him on the bed.
We were very happy with it.

We moved her to the crib after about a month of using the pnp/w/b
Us, too. PnP with napper downstairs and rock n play in our bedroom. He loves both and I think it's like others have stated: slight incline and smaller space. I do lay him in his crib when he naps in the morning just to get him used to or acquainted with it.
We have a similar model and having the napper feature was a complete lifesaver the first month or so. DD doesn't like to be swaddled, but she also didn't like to lay flat on the raised mattress at first. When she was in the napper she would sleep at least 2-2.5 hours during the night which was wonderful--if only we figured that out a week earlier. The napper is really lightweight so we'd carry it around the house with us and put her in it for naps. It was absolutely fantastic. Transitioning her from the napper to the pnp was a little bit tricky (we're keeping her in our room until she's at least 4 mo). It took a night or two for her to sleep more than 2 hrs, but now at 10 weeks she's sleeping 3-4 hr stretches. We did take the insert out of the napper after she got a little bigger because she could turn her head into it and we were afraid she'd suffocate. We've also had DD sleep in her crib during daytime naps and she doesn't seem to mind.
All babies are different. I'd purchase our pnp again in a heartbeat.
Ditto everything on this. He was in the bassinet part for about 4 weeks, and then we moved him to the flat mattress raised up. Fortunately it was an easy sitich, and hopefully once he goes into his crib it will be just as easy.
I do not have a RNP but everyone thy has one swears by it... Next time I want to get one of those to try.
I can't recommend this PNP enough!!! Sorry link isn't clicky mobile MOTNF
