My levels have been way too high at every finger pricking time. And I mean waaaay. I have been following the diet plan exactly (eating the right amounts of the right foods, and completely avoiding the bad foods). I've even done my exercising (light amount). I called the office and they said to wait until Thursday and if it's still really high to call back and they'll have me come in.
Anyone else that is following the plan exactly having any issues with keeping your numbers down? I can't think of anything I can do. I mean I guess there really isn't much. I haven't cheated the plan because I know this isn't just my health, but my baby boy's health too. I really wanted to avoid insulin or pills but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.
Anyone have any luck to where it was looking bad and after a few days things went back to normal?
Re: GD Help/Tips/Advice...?
If it's just 1 day, it might just be off, but if you continue to see that pattern you may need medication. If you do, it's not the worst thing in the world.
I was unable to control with diet and exercise after a while, and have been on Metformin since 28 weeks.
Have you posted this on the high risk board? A lot of us over there have GD. One woman was having off #s and realized she'd been consuming regular soda, instead of diet. Maybe it's something as simple as that.
Is that just a pill? Any side effects?
It is a pill. So is Metformin, as another poster is on. I have no side effects from it. If your doctor does prescribe medication, ask your doctor and also the pharmacist about the medication. Sometimes, high numbers are out of your control and it gets frustrating.
Thanks. The lady that gave us the class was making it seem like we failed if we needed medication. Ugh. I feel better knowing that it just happens. I didn't post on the high risk board. It didn't even occur to me. But I just went over there and read a bunch of the posts. Very helpful. And yes it's just one day so hopefully it is just an off day. Thankyou.
My morning numbers (fasting and before lunch) have been consistently high since I started on my GD diet. This is most likely due to the fact that we are usually more resistant in the morning than any other time.
Nothing I did diet wise would help so now I am on Metformin. Even then, after 3 days it hadn't changed so they have doubled my dose today. Fingers crossed for better results over the next few days.
