HR Experts

Do you know if you can get FLMA for pregnancy? I know you can get it for birth but what about during the pregnancy. I have horrible horrible m/s and my company has a really strict attendance policy -if you go out sick more than 3 times in a year you get put on a warning and then on your 4th you get fired. I am scared to take off work but I have been puking all day and I am ready to just break down and cry at my desk.

Re: HR Experts

  • There is intermittent FMLA, which isn't a block of time missed but rather days or hours here and there.  Basically if you're approved for it you are able to call out without notice.  It is unpaid but would protect your job if approved.  I believe any time taken as intermittent counts toward your FMLA allowance for the year.  Good luck and I hope you feel better!

  • I had horrible M/S with both pregnancies, and basically I had to use parts of my FMLA leave during my pregnancy for it.  It ended up reducing the amount of time that I could take off at the end, but I was fine with that.  I used PTO on those days, but since it was "unscheduled", it was safe becuse I just counted it to my FMLA.  Definitely talk to your HR rep.  And get on some zofran!  Sorry you are so sick!
