For DS1 I don't really limit the snacks because he's hungry all the time and still manages to eat a full meal. I just make sure it isn't junky.

For DS2, I do snacks 2x per day.

  • Usually whenever they want them, as long as its not to close to meal time, they are both small and picky so if they want food I feed them.

  • I used to do a morning and afternoon snack. But now I do only an afternoon snack around 3:00 to help tie them over before dinner.
  • a couple of times a day. DS1 is 2 and eats little meals frequently throughout the day, DS2 is just a chunk and love to eat lol!
  • Usually 2x. With it being summer it's a free for all, though.
  • 2 - 3/day

He gets a morning and afternoon snack every day. If we have a late dinner, he might have an extra snack around 5, or if we have an early dinner, he'll occasionally get a bedtime snack around 7.

  • Mainly #2- one small snack between each meal (but even her "meals" are mostly "small snacks" because she doesn't eat a lot in one sitting.) However, there are times that she might ask for something extra throughout the day, and unless it's right before a meal or right before bed time, I don't mind. Her main requests are yogurt, banana, and graham crackers. There are also exceptions for special occasions or events.

  • DD1 gets a snack in the afternoon at DC. I think she might get one in the morning, but I am not sure. At home, she says she is "sooo hungry" all the time, so I distract. She can have fruit whenever she wants, but a snack, like crackers or gummy fruits, that is in the afternoon, if that. But, she is super chunky, so I try to distract her from snacks. DD2 never really seems to ask, but she will get pissy if DD1 is eating and she isn't.

  • Whenever she tells me she's hungry, which is about every two hours.  My DD is a fairly big eater, too, so we just try to ensure snacks stay on the healthy side.

  • DS1 gets a snack in between breakfast and lunch if he asks for one but I don't offer during this time. He also eats snack after his nap around 3:00 and then usually something small around 5:00 if he's grumpy or hungry to hold him over until dinner at 6:30. Occasionally he will ask for something between dinner and bedtime but that is rare. We don't do dessert.

So, I offer sometimes and sometimes I wait until he asks. He doesn't have a big appetite, though, so I generally tend to let him take the lead and try not to offer anything too close to meal time.

  • 1 snack between breakfast and lunch and one (bigger) snack between lunch and dinner. If he asks for more, I give Cheerios or something boring. Our snacks are generally fruit or crackers and hummus or cheese.

  • I don't limit snacks. Just her choices of them. So fruit/cheese/yogurt/raisins/carrots/homemade ice pops---those are any time snacks. If she wants them at 9am or at 7pm, it doesn't matter to me.

Goldfish/crackers/granola bars/etc those I just watch and make sure she doesn't have them all the time.

Rosie eats breakfast and dinner for meals, then snacks the rest of the day. We try to keep snacks healthy though. So I'll portion out veggies, yogurts, fruits, crackers, apple sauce, pouchies, ect. All she does is ask and she receives. Unless it's getting close to dinner.

  • Ds eats and snacks all.day.long. I'm not joking. Always wanting to eat. Fil jokes we owe him 100 for food every time he watches ds. He's two and a half and 35 in tall, 31 lbs. he's skinny boy just eats a ton. So answer is whenever he asks and just not before a meal

    So for people that are saying no snacks.. if your kid comes to you and says, "I'm hungry"... do you just say wait until lunch/dinner whatever is coming next?nbsp;
and they are supposed to be getting snacks.
  • At school the kids have a morning snack - we are a late start school school so lunch is later in the day.  They typically then have something small after school, prior to dinner.  On the weekends or other non-school/summer program days, it really depends on what we are doing.  I would say on average 1-2 a day but some days its none - all depends on what time we are eating and what we are doing.  We rarely have dessert or an evening snack though.

  • Usually just three meals a day.  Sometimes an afternoon snack depending on what time she wakes up from her nap.

My kid can't yet tell me that she's hungry, but if it was close to another meal, I wouldn't have a problem with saying "drink some water and wait until lunch/dinner."

  • Usually once a day; however the older two (6 & 8) are in VBS this week.  They get a snack in the AM there.   Then in the afternoon they go swimming and need another one before dinner.
