Let's do an open ended GTKY.
I will start and say that I don't like my name and I have never liked it.
It's super dated-- it was #6 the year I was born and is now in the high 800s. You can guess my age within a few years either way just from hearing my name-- something I am appreciating less and less as I get older.
I think this is why I am highly favoring an uber traditional name for my phantom child.

Re: Do you like your name?
my name is Cassandra - I distinctly remember DESPISING my name when I was little because it was too long (I have a very long last name too, which made learning to write in first grade torture for me) and it was extremely rare - I've only ever met one other Cassandra in my life. Now, as an adult I like it alot...making my choice for my LO even tougher for me
p.s. I just found this board yesterday and I absolutely LOVE it!

ETA: I'm a 70's baby.
Rainbow Surprise Baby due 05/26/2017
My real name (not Lucy) is one of those really-popular-in-the-80s/90s names, but when my parent's named me that, it wasn't popular in our town...yet.
I'm from a really small town and I'm one of the first [females] there with my name, but then after me, the name blew up. Not because my parents started a trend, of course, just because it was on rise in popularity already.
Growing up, I didn't always like it (the way it sounded), but I did like the way it looked when written on paper.
My real appreciation of it came from a professor in college. He was in his 70s and had seemed to be unaware of the fact that there were tons of other girls/women with my name. He would always compliment it and say that it was a lovely, strong English name that you rarely hear on women. He was wrong about the last part, but I did begin to see it as a lovely, strong English name instead of a trendy 80s/90s thing.
ETA: I was lucky enough to not share my name with anyone within one or two grades above or below me.
I am sort of dying to know what your name is.

Cassandra is so pretty. When I was pregnant with DD it was on my long list.

I'm an ever-common Ashley.
I'm just one of the first female ones from my teeny, tiny hometown. There were several boys with that name that were older than me, but it hadn't quite caught on with the girls there yet. I'm sure it was already getting popular on girls everywhere else though.
ETA: I think my professor really loved Ash trees, hence his feelings of it being a good English name (regarding the meaning).

My name is Kathryn Elizabeth but I go by Kate. I hated my name when I was little but now I love it! Kathryn is after my dad's grandmother who also went by Kate and Elizabeth is after my dad's mother and also my mom's grandmother. I love the story behind it and I feel honored to be named after my grandmothers, who were/are exceptional women.
I'm sure the whole professor-that-thought-it-was-rare-on-girls thing probably threw it off. Yeah. There were tons of other Ashleys at my univerisity, so I don't know what that was about.
I do now. I think it was a 'grass is greener on the other side' thing as a kid, when I didn't really care for it. It is #30 on the SSA in the year I was born, and there was usually maybe two or three others in my school. None in my graduating class.
I've been trying to guess yours, but then I thought that maybe it really is Helena or Helen, but that seems too easy.
I wish it was either Helen or Helena. It's Heather.

I'm an early-'80s Caitlin.
Growing up, I liked it just fine. Now, I find the multiple, ever-more-cutesy spellings annoying. I think it will be a long time before it starts sounding less juvenile.
Baby Name Popularity by State
Not really. It's boring. People try to call me Nikki (obviously my name is Nicole). Barf.
Out of curiosity, what did you not like about your name? It alternates between number 1 and 2 on my list for girls so I'm curious!
I like my name okay, but I hate it when people shorten it to a common nickname for it. Hate. Loathe.
I wouldn't trade my name for a random girl's name. So I guess I more than 50% like it? If that makes sense.
I ended up deciding to go by Kate as an adult because I got tired of telling people that I'm not Kathy.
I'm an Abby (not Abigail) born in the early 80's, so before the big Abigail/Abby boom that came in the early 2000's.
I never hated or loved my name, I guess. I was and am pretty neutral on it. But it does make me care less about having a full "formal" name, which I know other's feel really strongly about. It's never been a problem for me to be "just" Abby.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I love my name and see it getting mentioned on here more and more. I do have to spell it for people and correct some on pronounciation but it's nbd to me. Cara (Care-ah).
Oh and I guessed Ashley's name, go me lol
My name is the shortened form of yours. I've always hated it because I wished my 'legal' name was Cassandra so I could go by that instead.
I love my name. I'm named after my dad's favorite song, Sweet Melissa by the Allman Brothers Band. I didn't always love it because of the nicknames. My parents nicknamed me Missy, and a few classmates tried to shorten my name to Mel. I still go by Missy with my family, but I'm Melissa to everyone else because I refuse to answer to anything else. The Missy nn was truly unfortunate because from 3-6, I had a horrible lisp and introduced myself as Mithy. Also, I was a girlie girl, so I got Prissy Missy a lot.
However, my dad would always call me his Sweet Melissa, and on 12/31/99, we went to the ABB concert. Right after midnight, the band played Sweet Melissa, my dad and I were invited on stage to sing along. I can say that the first thing I did in 2000 was sing the song I was named for on stage with the man who wrote it and the man who named me.

Mine? Woot woot!
I am Emily, I have a twin named Grace. When I was younger I always liked my sisters name better but now I like my own fine.
How do they mispronounce it?? That's suprising, I always figured that was a very easy name to pronounce.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
The Hebrew Leah is Lay-uh, I think.
