3rd Trimester

Back Pain when I walk...

I had been having a great pregnancy until a week ago and now when I walk, I can hardly stand the pain.

Every time I step down on my right foot, the pain is very bad in my lower back on the right side.

Any ideas on what helps? Has anyone else had this?

  • Have you tried a maternity support belt?

  • It could be your sciatic nerve. I had this problem on and off. It all depends on the positioning of the baby. If it is your sciatic nerve, when the baby change positions you'll feel instant relief.

    This.

From the vague details you've posted it sounds similar to SPD/PGP (symphasis pubic dysfunction or pelvic girdle pain). I have this and its terrible some days, bearable others. My maternity support belt definitely helps (most days).

You can buy these OTC at places like BRU, or you can get specially fitted ones at medical supply facilities with an Rx from your OB.

Yes. This is what happened to me too...but it was end of second tri/beginning of third. The pain was so intense I could barely get out of a chair let alone walk. After a few weeks of this nonsense it seemed to just kind of dissipate. I guess the baby moved. I hope you find relief soon - I know how bad it can be!

  • Yes, that's the worst. Ice helps temporarily,  but the only thing that really helped me was going to see a chiropractor. An adjustment and some therapy definitely helped. Plus, he told me labor would be easier if I stayed consistent with it, like every 2 weeks til the end. I'm 28 weeks now, I plan to try that, even if its every 3 wks or so. He's a client of mine, so I trust him.. I will do whatever it takes to be pain free plus an easier delivery, if that's possible :) good luck!
  • Thank you everyone! I'm seeing the chiro tomorrow!
  • I had this a few weeks ago. Turns out when I stopped carrying my son on my hip, it went away. Go figure.
