Baby Names

New here...Anastasia, Amelia, Lucas ??

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this board. I'm just over 6 weeks pregant. My partner has one son named Marshall and I have four children Sabrina, Cameron, Braden, and Jonathan (JD). We're already discussing names and have a couple for a girl but only one for a boy that we both agree on. Lucas (I'll call him Luke but S.O. won't)...seems to be getting too popular. Amelia seems to be very popular too...I originally wanted the nickname to be Mia but my teen son has a girlfriend with that name...so my S.O. suggested Amy. Anastasia seems very uncommon here in the US...but I read online that it was recently number one in Russia...had no idea! I want a name that sort of blends with those of the siblings yet not so common. Any ideas on other names? Also, what do you think of Amelia, Anastasia or Lucas? We need middle ideas too although it seems it will be Renee for a girl. Thanks for any help!

My son is Lucas, so I love the name! I call him Luke, but the vast majority call him Lucas.

I'm not a huge fan of Anastasia or Amelia (just not my style), although I do love Emilia - go figure :).

    Some other suggestions:

    Rosalie

    Julianna

     Vivienne/Vivian

     Alexandra

    Camille

    Ivy

    Cora

    Good luck!

  • Most of the names you suggest, we wouldn't use...for various reasons (like too similar to an ex, etc...) But Cora is a family name on both sides of our families! Thanks! :-)

What about Anastasia with NN Anna? I've always liked the name Lucas for a boy.  Although it's very popular, I cannot stand the name Amelia.  In the medical field, the term "amelia" literally means a birth defect without limbs. What about the name Mila instead of Mia?
  • Thanks everyone!

My S.O. wants to use nn Anna for Anastasia but I feel Ana is better since it's spelled with one n. However, I prefer Anya as a nn...and he likes it too.

  • I prefer Anastasia over Amelia.

    Lucas is fine.

  • FWIW, my name is Amelia, and I go by either Mimi or Minnie, depending on who I'm with.  So you might consider those nicknames as well.

Also, my DH is Ukrainian and tells me that the nickname for Anastasia is Nastia (pronounced Nahstya), just fyi. :)

I think Anya sounds nice though.
