Okay, so I thought I would try switching to powder Tide from Charlie's since we have moderately hard water and so many people have such success with it, and I can buy it locally. Well, I washed DD's clothes in it first, to make sure she wasn't sensitive to it...but then I didn't get them put away, and ended up putting away the diapers I washed first for DH to use one night while I was at work. Anyway, long story short, she's horribly allergic to Tide and turns bright red within about a minute or two and SCREAMS, not just from the diapers, but from the clothes.
Anyway, I got the Tide scent out of her clothes after one wash, and her prefolds/fitteds/bamboo inserts no longer smelled like Tide after I did 2 rinse with an extra rinse cycles followe by my normal washing routine, using Charlie's, but my pockets still freaking smell like Tide! And I've now done 3 more rinse cycles. And it's enough to bother her still, since I tried one yesterday.
Do I need to strip them? From only one wash in Tide? Do you think my natural fiber stuff is fine? She seems to be doing fine in her prefolds, so...did the Tide just not stick around in those like in the pockets?
I'm just so frustrated, lol. This was coupled up with a growth spurt and having to switch her to a sensitive formula. It's been a rough week...and I apparently missed quite a bit here the last couple of days! Anyway, help? Tia!
Re: Tide Fail Help
Ugh. So sorry that happened to you. My oldest was sensitive to Tide too. Not fun.
In general natural fibers do get "cleaner" easier than synthetics. If you have a top loader, I'd probably just do a dawn strip and be done with it. (Add a couple squirts to the water and then rinse rinse rinse until you don't see suds anymore.)
If you have a FL, adding dawn can void your warranty. So if it was me, I'd either try a few more washes with Charlie's or even just plain hot water washes first. Then you can always use dawn in your bathtub, rinse a few times, and then move to using your washer.
Good luck! Hope next week is better for both you!
Aw, thanks, lady! I know you're a March mama, too, but how old's your LO? DD will be 13 weeks tomorrow, and, omg, this 12 week growth spurt/wonder week thing has been rough!
We're using the Target brand of Similac Sensitive, since we were using the regular of that. It was amazing, after one feeding, she was back to being a content baby instead of a screaming baby. My brother and I also got teeth early, like 4 months, so I was also worried about that, but her fussiness completely went away with the formula switch. What kind of formula are you using?
