3rd Trimester

Baby girl name

I never have heard of anyone with this as a 1st name but was wondering what some of you ladies on here thought.

McCartney Lynn (1st and middle)

I don't want to ask my family becuase I want the name to be a surprise and my husband can't keep a secret so I haven't ran it past him yet until I can decide.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Baby girl name

  • I don't care for it.

  • McCartney is a last name, not a first name, and should stay that way.

  • Sorry I don't like it much either. Maybe you could use it as a middle name?

  • I personally like it, BUT I am a fan of unusual names. If you like it, that's what matters. Just be sure to not only picture her as a baby with that name. When she's older and entering the professional world, would McCartney be a good name? Picture her wedding.. And other adult events.

  • Are you going to nickname her Macca as well? Smile Ok, bad joke. If you choose this name get used to people asking you if you or hubby are a big Paul McCartney fan. Personally, I don't like last names as first names. But if you really like it, go with it.  I do like the flow of McCartney Lynn. If you're going to choose this as a first name, Lynn is a great middle name.
  • I wouldn't.
  • Heck no!!
And don't decide on a name without your husband.
  • I actually like it, but I had a great aunt named Mac who I absolutely loved! I also like different names.

Not a fan. And are you seriously making this decision without your husband? It's his kid, too. Did he give you free reign to just go choose any name you like and keep it from him until you're sure? Weird.

  • No, sounds too much like a last name. Lynn is nice though :)

  • I love unique names, but McCartney sounds too much like a last name. Lynn is beautiful.

  • It's awful and your husband should have some say in his daughter's name.

  • I am not a huge fan of McCartney. It sounds a little strained and difficult to spit out.

  • I think it sounds good, but I tend to stay away from names that when written down (without middle name such as in normal life over the years) people can't tell if it's a male or female name.  That's just me though.
  • I don't think it's half as bad as most of these women do. It's not really a weird name and it's way better than giving just a run of the mill name. It's also not other people's right to say how you approach your husband with a baby name. I bet you a lot of money, someone has already named their child this though. Just google it. I wouldn't look around here for a lot of support, especially when naming a baby, unless it's a simpler name like Kaitlyn or Elizabeth.

I would bet you there is someone out there that named their kid Coconut, it still doesn't make it a name.

What she is hearing here is what people are going to be thinking or saying behind her back in her real life.

  • I think it's cute, but I do agree that you have to think of her in her adult life, as well as any possible nicknames that she could be given, which you may not like. (Mac, Cart, etc.) If it's a Beatles reference, why not Lucy or Penny? I love Tangerine, it's my favorite song. I was going to use it as a middle name, but the hubs said no!
  • It's horrible.  And so is not making this decision as a couple.

  • I like the two together but I think it's a tough first name. I like girl names that sound sort of boyish like Ryder, Ryan, etc and this falls into that genre. But I think that because it not only sounds masculine but sounds like a last name, it sounds a bit too contrived.  What about Mackenzie Lynn?  Similar. And like others have said, you will constantly be asked if you are Beatles fans. Maybe flip the names if you are set on it?  Lynn McCartney?  I also think that these days in an effort to be original many just turn into odd names. I felt the same struggle selecting our son's name and don't blame you for bouncing it off strangers before selecting :)
  • I work with a girl named McKartney. Not a fan.
