Those that are feeding 3 meals a day

Hi Ladies! It's been a while since I've been on. Work has been crazy busy. DD is currently eating two meals a day (breakfast and dinner), I think when I return from my business trip next week I am going to start adding in lunch. So DD is really taking more formula than the recommended total ounces that's on the sheet from my Dr. but I struggle with how to cut back.I don't know why I am having such a hard time with this. I am not overly concerned, but I do want to get her into the range she needs to be in. I think adding in lunch will probably help, I'm just not sure what to cut. I wish I had written down what I dd with DD. I am curious as to what other schedules look like.

Right now we do:

Morning: 5 oz formula, oatmeal, 2 oz fruit
Mid Morning: 5 oz formula
Lunch 5 oz formula
Afternoon: 5 oz formula
Dinner: 4 oz formula 2oz green veggie, 2 oz yellow/orange veggie (and usually some puffs or finger foods while I am getting it ready).
Evening bottle before bed: 8 oz

Sometimes she might leave an 1oz or so in the bottle, but this is generally what we do.

  • I breastfeed so I can't tell you the ounces that LO is getting, but that is what our schedule looks like.

Morning: Breastfeed then Breakfast which is fruit and cheerios, toast, or pancakes (we dice up his food and let him feed himself)

    Midmorning: Breastfeed

Noon: Lunch which is a veggie, fruit, and cheese or yogurt

    Mid Afternoon: Breastfeed

    Early Evening: Breastfeed

Evening: Dinner which is a veggie or two, egg, chicken, or beef, maybe pasta or bread and some type of fruit

    Bedtime: Breastfeed

1 or 2 times overnight Breastfeed

  • Morning (5am):  6 oz breastmilk (home)

Mid Morning (8am):  6 oz breastmilk (daycare), then 2 hours later 4 oz veggie/fruit/combo

Lunch (noon): 6 oz Bbreastmilk (daycare)

Afternoon (3pm):  6 oz breastmilk (daycare)

Late afternoon (5pm): 2-4 oz cereal, 2-4 oz veggie/fruit/combo (home)

Dinner (6pm):  6 oz breastmilk (home)

Evening bottle before bed (8-9pm): 4-6 oz formula (home)

Sometimes there's no evening bottle if the dinner one is late enough - really depends.  And the last month or so he's been teething/growth spurt/whatever and has been having a middle of the night feeding of 4-6 oz breastmilk.

I've been struggling with trying to add more solids as well - it's hard with work and not knowing how each day is going at daycare until I pick him up or when his last bottle was.  Sometimes we don't get in the late afternoon solids too which means only 1 "meal" a day.

We do the same for lunch and dinner.

    Wake up: breastfeed

an hour ish later: oats and banana (I should vary the fruit, but banana is so easy!)

    lunch: breastfeed

an hour ish later: lunch of mixed veg + pprotein

    late afternoon: breastfeed

    evening: same as lunch

    breastfeed.

    The end.

I don't know quantities - she happily eats what we give her.

  • Ok, I'm feeling super behind!!!  we're still trying to work into solids.  cereal and baby foods were both busts.  So we're starting to try BLW slowly.

    Right now we do:

5:00 or 6:00  ish wake up, 8 oz formula

    10 or 11:00 ish 8 oz formula

    3:00 ish 8 oz formula

5:00 or 6:00 this is usually when we try to work in a solid, if it doesn't work or he's hungry we give him a 4 or 6 oz bottle to hold him over to bedtime

8:30 or 9:00 8 oz bottle (with 2 scoops of rice cereal)

**He doesn't always finish the whole bottle, usually it's more like 6 or 7 ounces

Am I overfeeding????  Now I'm freaked out.

  • I'm surprised your doctor said anything about too much formula.  We were told that we don't need to cut back at all till she's closer to 11 or so months, and she'll do it on her own.

DD has 6-7 oz of forumla around 7

3.5 oz of food around 9

6-7 ounces of formula around 10

3.5 oz of food around 12

6-7 oz of formula around 1

6-7 oz of formula  around 4

3.5oz of food /1-2 tbsp of finger foods around 6

6-7 oz of formula around 7

So basically she's having anywhere from 30-35oz of formula a day, and 3 straight meals

  • We don't have like a set time for anything but it's bascially:

    First bottle - 6-8 oz

Oatmeal or Cereal mixed with fruit about an hour after - I'm not sure on oz on that!

    Second bottle - 5-8 oz

Lunch/Snack - Usually one of the yogurt blends (the whole cup thing) and he's still working on self-feeding so we'll give him some puffs or pieces of banana

    Third bottle - 7-8 oz

Dinner - 4 oz (I think that's how much is in a whole one of them) of a meat blended with fruit or veggie...we buy our food so LO is in between 2nd and 3rd stage. His fave is Apples and Chicken. So he eats a whole one of those and now he's onto at least another 2 oz of fruit or one of the "desserts"

    Fourth bottle - 6-8 oz

  • well 24 - 32 oz of formula is recc a day plus you can start introducing water and apple juice (like 2-4 oz a day) ...not sure where you are giving to much formula from what you have listed. but as they begin to eat solids they may start to drink less formula/breastmilk on their own...for ex if you regularly give an 8oz bottle at the end of the day they may only drink 6 or 7oz nothing wrong as long as you've given enough throughout the day.

Call your pedi and ask the max amount of formula they recc but at 8 mos eating 3 times a day is ok.

  • I was doing 3 but she's really been cutting back on nursing so I dropped breakfast. But before it was

    7:30 nurse

    around 8:30 breakfast

    10:15 nurse

around 11:30 lunch, unless we are out then more like 1

    1:15 nurse

    3:30 nurse

5:30 dinner (unless we are out, then whenever)

    7:00 nurse

i don't do the same type of foods at the same meals (I.e cereal for breakfast, veggies for lunch or whatever) Dinner usually includes some finger foods
