I was scheduled to induce on Monday (I'm on heparin shots), and went in for my final appointment today. The baby has been measuring small throughout the pregnancy, but since both me and her Dad are small nobody has been overly concerned. I'm not quite 39 weeks, so inducing should be fine.
Today it appears that I've lost 4 1/2 lbs in the last 2 weeks. It also looks like my uterus has only grown 1 cm. They're going to have me go get an ultrasound to see if the baby's growing, if she's not, then I'm walking across the street and admitting myself to the hospital to be induced today.
I read about it, it sounds like it is typically just a placenta problem and the baby ends up fine, but as it gets closer I'm starting to panic. Is it normal to lose that much weight at the end of your pregnancy? I mean, is there any way that this isn't going to be some sort of issue?
Really, I think I just needed to rant somewhere before I spiral into a total panic over this. I'll know in an hour I suppose...
Re: Not growing
Wish I could give you some advice but good luck with everything. Sending T&Ps.
At 27 weeks, I was measuring 4 cms behind. I had been measuring small consistently though. Went for a grown scan at 29 weeks and baby was in 50th percentile. At my 35 week appt yesterday I was measuring 30 cms and had lost a pound. My doctor said the weight loss isn't uncommon and the small measurement could be because I'm 6'2, or because my abs are tight or something lol or just really for no specific reason and not to worry. It's good you're having an ultrasound to check but try not to worry too much. Also, if you're 39 weeks, maybe the lack of growth could be that baby dropped? I've heard of this before. I've also heard of women losing weight at the very end of pregnancy.
In the end, only a u/s can tell you but these things can turn out ok! Hope all is well!
Every case is different, but maybe this will give you a little reassurance. At my 32 week appointment I had lost a pound in the previous two weeks and my belly was measuring two centimeters smaller than it did at my 30 week appointment. The nurse said that measurements can vary plus or minus two centimeters and can change depending on how the baby is positioned. My OB wasn't concerned over the weight loss or my measurement.
Hope everything goes well for you!
I lost a lot of weight in the end with DD. I also routinely measured small. It was never a concern for my doctor or for me.
Has your doctor been doing growth u/s at all? If growth, or lack thereof, has been a concern several u/s should have been scheduled over several weeks in order to track growth.
FWIW, fundal height isn't exactly accurate, but a cm a week is pretty much what you should be looking for.

Ditto. Please keep us posted.
Thank you all for the well wishes, I appreciate it!
We did the ultrasound and the baby is growing fine so we didn't have to induce yesterday. I'm glad to hear weight loss near the end of the pregnancy isn't that uncommon, I was feeling a bit guilty that I apparently hadn't eaten enough to keep the weight gain going.
Anyway, 3 more days
Thanks again for the advice/T&I.
