Running with baby Postpartum

How soon postpartum can you take baby out in a jogging stroller (after you get cleared to run by your OB of course)?  The stroller I registered for has a snap in carseat attachment, so LO would still be in her carseat as opposed to strapped into the stroller.  However, I know head support is an issue for newborns. I will check with my pediatrician after LO gets here to make sure, but I was just curious as to what other moms have done in the past.  Thanks!

Thanks for your input, ladies.  The nurse teaching our birthing classes told us 4 months, but I had heard from other moms that their doctors told them ranges from 8 weeks to 6 months. I guess I will just go by what my pediatrician says!

  • I ran with DS at 3 weeks with the carseat adaptor on my BOB. I ran on smooth bike trails (we have miles and miles of trail in town). Never had an issue. I think I moved him out of the car seat and into the stroller around 5 months. DS had really good head control, though.

If I didn't have the smooth, uncrowned bike trail option, things would probably have been different.

  • Same as the other posters......began running with DD at 8 weeks using the car seat adapter on smoothed paved roads. Transitioned her to the main stroller seat around 8-9 months, IIRC.
