36 weeks

Today I am 36 weeks pregnant the wait is on

Re: 36 weeks

  • Wait is on for what? You have 4 weeks until your due date, and you shouldn't want LO to come anytime soon, he/she needs to cook longer!

  • I will be 36wk tomorrow, and I can't wait. LOL.... I will count down the days until I'm "full term" (37wk) so I can start my home remedies... I'm considered on the bigger side so there are no risks. Everything is getting harder to do, and totally uncomfortable!!!

    GL!

Oy vey...there is so much wrong with this post that I don't even know where to begin.

    1. 37 weeks is NOT full term...37 weeks is "term" meaning you no longer have a preemie if you give birth at 37 weeks. Full term is 40 weeks, end of story.

    2. The size of your baby is currently an ESTIMATE, could be off by a pound or two in either direction, and has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on whether or not they will have fully developed lungs and a fully developed brain. Plenty of big babies still end up in the NICU.

    3. Most home remedies are old wives tales (pineapple, chicken parm, wtc.) and will do absolutely nothing for you if you are not actually ready to go into labor. Furthermore, you should not be trying any of the more major home remedies (blue and black cohosh, castor oil, etc.) until you are full term(which again, is...say it with me...FORTY WEEKS).

    4. As a preemie mom who would have killed for an extra 9-10 weeks last time, I think if you try any of the above "major home remedies" starting at 37 weeks, you are potentially setting your kid up for a NICU stay, and are a selfish ahole for not being able to wait 3-5 more weeks until your kid is actually ready to come out.

    Yes to all.

And as a 37 weeker NICU mom I never would wish for another 37 weeker either.

Let baby decide when to come.

Hugs Rumble, I would never wish a NICU stay on anyone! Also, I noticed that we are due date buddies and also both VBAC hopefuls, hope it works out for you!

  • Because someone TRIES a home remedy doesn't mean they are a selfish hole like you said... This is my 5th child, so I would think I know my body well enough to make my own choice, as long as my dr is fine with it... This is one of the main reasons i hardly post on here, because of judgemental "knowitalls" like yourself!

GL Best wishes to you all :

couldnt have said it better myself! My 41 week 10lb 2oz baby was in the NICU. It happens, your baby will come when he or she is good and ready.

    GL!

a friend of mine just had her baby yesterday at 37 weeks. the baby is in the NICU because his lungs still are not completely developed. so you are really not "full term" at 37 weeks.

  • To the momma that posted GL!!!

As for the comments putting her and others down, what is wrong with you all?! Some if you woman are so rude to others!

Hi honey, this is the Bump...welcome. We are not here to blow rainbows up your a$$...if you say something stupid, we will attempt to educate you. If you still think you are right, put on your big girl panties and a flame retardant suit, because you will get told.

One would think that by your 5th kid you would realize the estimated size of the baby has nothing to do with whether or not the baby is ready to be born weeks early.  I mean it's great that the kid is big but it would be nice if LO could also breathe by itself.

But you know, you're 5 times as smart as me since I only have one kid.

All of this.  If this is actually your 5th kid, you should know better.

As for being a 'knowitall", yes, after nearly bleeding to death and then spending 63 days in the NICU with my first child for a situation completely beyond my control, I would say I know a hell of a lot more than you about this particular topic. Maybe you should take a break from procreating and pick up a book.

Since this is your 5th child, and you seem to know your body so well, wouldn't you know that your body will do what it needs to do when it's ready to do it?

We don't care why you "hardly post on here."  You're nobody.  No one is begging you to stay.

I agree!  I highly doubt the OP is hoping for baby to be born before it's ready - just anxious for his/her arrival.  I'm anxious to meet my little one too Smile 7 weeks to my due date!

Knowing your body has NOTHING to do with knowing how your unborn child is developing. If your doctor is worth two cents they would educate you on the need to go 39 weeks at least without intervening. You might want to check out the March of Dimes website. If baby comes on it's own that is different but trying to evict baby before on purpose for no medical reason is irresponsible.

The comments aren't to the OP. We are all anxious to meet our LOs and I'm sure all counting down.

The comments above about the need to let LO bake are to the lovely peach above who will start to home induce at 37 weeks.

  • natural induction is perfectly safe under a doctors care. Since conception in most cases can NOT be exactly determined, women that have their child early may actually be term. Term is a doctors calculation not an exact science.

I plan to do the same thing. I don't actually believe most of it will work. i'm willing to try. & i do have my midwife & specialist OK to do so. They want to induce me medically anyway. My purpose is to avoid medication, as i want drug free birth. In my heart i think my baby will come on her own earlier than my induction date. With that being said, any method you use should be well researched & confirmed by a medical professional. Some induction methods can cause more harm than good.

Sometimes folks should not be so harsh to mom's. Your experience is not the next mom's experience. There are a lot of factors that determine what will happen in birth. No two mothers are exactly the same. We are all hormonal right now and it may be better to approach a post with a soft heart. Why belittle someone else to get your point across? You will lose your power in your hast to scold instead of inform.

I wish you the best & pray your baby will come right on timeWink

Your second paragraph sums everything up perfectly..."should be well researched and confirmed by a medical professional" does not equal "I am having a big baby and know everything will be fine, so let me do what I want three weeks before my due date".

As for your first paragraph, yes, while exact conception dates cannot always be confirmed, early ultrasounds are usually pretty freaking accurate, and while the EDD may be off by a few days, they are not generally off by three weeks, which is why trying to evict your kid at 37 weeks is totally irresponsible.

And for the record, telling someone facts =/= belittling them. I refuse to sit here and let someone spread misinformation to first time moms who may not know any better.

  • Since conception in most cases can NOT be exactly determined, women that have their child early may actually be term. Term is a doctors calculation not an exact science.

This could also mean the baby is younger than term.

I had a baby at 37 weeks.  He had breathing problems and had trouble nursing.  He was also small.  He was 5 lbs when he was released from the hospital.  I still wish he had been able to hold off until 40 weeks.
