We are thinking about starting out with one crib for the twins when they are born. Lots of people recommend the IKEA Gulliver crib but it looks like it could be too narrow for both babies to safely fit. I can't find any posts that mention twins sharing the Gulliver. They are inexpensive cribs but if we have to buy two I figure we may as well buy a different brand (one crib) that they can both fit in. Has anyone had their twins share this crib in the beginning and was there enough room for them?

Re: IKEA Gulliver crib - big enough for newborn twins?
Unless it requires a custom mattress, all cribs are standard sizing.
FWIW, our hospital is very against co-sleeping/sleeping twins together. I know a lot of ladies here do it, and we would like to as we'll, but are meeting a lot of warnings and scare tactics .

We have the Sundvik cribs from Ikea which are the same size as the Gulliver. They use a standard mattress, they are just a lot less "furniture", so I don't think that getting another brand of a standard-size crib will make a difference for what you are looking for.
It was big enough for the two of them when they first came home, but we had them sleeping in separate cribs starting at about 4 months old (2 months adjusted). To be honest, once they start rolling around a little I was not comfortable with them sleeping in the same space - even with a separator (which I am not sure you can get anymore). And then I needed two cribs anyway. At almost 16 months, we are still going strong with the Ikea cribs and loving them.
Why do they feel its unsafe? We are planning on having the newborns share a crib at least for the first couple months. I haven't heard any negative feedback about this yet so I'm interested to know what their issues are with this.
SIDS
When I nannied for twins, I had them in the same crib and they were fine, but seems as though current AAP advice is for them to sleep in the same room as parents, but not the same bed and then in separate cribs. All to minimize SIDS.

Our boys have the Gulliver cribs from Ikea and they both slept in one in our room until they were 3 months old. We had no problems.
Good luck!
I think this where I am. I don't totally buy the risk piece, but I'd rather not be the 1 in a million. We have 2 Ikea cribs on our reg.

My girls slept in Rock-N-Plays for 3 months and then transitioned to separate cribs. They could have totally shared for a month or two, but once they can wiggle around, they would have been all over each other. Now at 6 months, they sleep like starfish.
Sharing sounds like a good idea at first, but just go ahead and get both at the same time and save yourself the headache of having to put the second one together later.
