So I'm heading into 2nd tri (YAY!!!) and as of Monday's appt. I'm only up 2 pounds. Pretty normal?

Re: Weight gain with twins...

  • I'd say. I was only a few lbs overweight to begin with and didn't gain any weight until 25 weeks.

  • Yes, I think I was still down 2 lbs when I headed into the 2nd trimester (due to morning sickness)  Very normal!

This! Except I lost 15 pounds in the first tri and gained about 10 in the second and then 40 in the last(mostly swelling due to pre-E). Both babies came out a perfect weight.

I put on a good 40-45 pounds with DD (a lot of swelling in the end) so that is what I'm expecting but that darn book says I should put on like 12 pounds by now. :-/

  • That wasn't my experience.  I haven't lost any weight during this journey.  I didn't gain much in the first half of the first trimester but after that point I've gained 1 - 3lbs consistently each week.

  • Normal. I put on like 5 lbs the whole first tri (and I wasn't sick or anything). Gain picked up in second tri -- I had put on ~30lbs by the time I (unexpectedly) went into labor @ 29 weeks.

  • I gained about 4 lbs. in my first trimester and so far (I'm 19 weeks now) have only gained 8 lbs total. My doctors are not terribly worried because the babies are measuring on track and healthy. However, they did ask me to start doing a protein shake in the morning to get me to eat more since my appetite is gone.

  • I didn't gain weight until after I was in 2nd Tri.  My MFM said it was fine.

I only gained a few lbs in first tri, but I made up for it quickly! For me, the weight started coming on fast at around 15 weeks.

  • Yup. I gained v little until 16w or so. It's been gangbusters since then, like 2lbs a week. I've changed nothing about my eating habits between trimesters.

  • I was up 2 lbs by 12w but still managed to gain 20 lbs by 20w and 54 lbs overall. It was easier to gain once I got past the nausea in the first tri!

  • I didn't start gaining weight until 14 weeks and now at 31 weeks I am up 38 pounds. Once I started gaining it hasn't stopped!!

I know, that book is annoying! Even without m/s I have still only put on 2 lbs, and I am eating everything in sight. I was frustrated, the other day I had lost one of the 2 lbs!! I am around 8/9 weeks depending on who you ask. (LMP is 9w1d)

  • I am 20 weeks and have gained about 27 lbs! Lol It's crazy.  But I gained about 50 lbs with each if my singletons so I assume I will pack it in with twins.  With my first, I lost all 50 lbs PLUS 15 lbs. I was 15 lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight by 9 months pp.  With my second, same deal, gained 50lbs, lost 60lbs.  I'm average height and weight.

  • I am 30 wks and have gained 16 lbs. I have had, and continue to have horrible nausea, heartburn and food aversions. BUT, babies are both in 50 percentile for size and seem healthy. Don't stress. Eat what you can to feel satisfied but don't over do it just to gain weight. I am healthy and so are my LOs and my gain has been minimal. Good luck!

  • Congrats on 2nd tri!

Weight totally varies.  I'm 32/3 and up 19 lbs from pre-preg.  Babes are growing as they should, so no one is concerned.  Some women are up 50 by 32w.  It just depends on so many things.

  • I'm starting to notice nothing is really normal for weight gain. I lost for a while, then gained a bit, then lost... The boys are growing great so I guess its okay
