I've been teaching for 2 years and subbing for 2 years before that. Here are some girl names that caught my eye. The boy names have been pretty repetitive.
Sarai, Anahi, Citlalli / Ciclalli, Sayuri, Vero (nn for Veronica), Kali (emphasis on the last syllable), Zipporah (pronounced Sephora)
What do you think of them? Also, if you're a teacher, what names stood out to you over the years?

Re: Teacher / Name watcher
I worked in a hospital and one of my dutys was to fill out the PKU paperwork for each new baby. Some of the worst-

Her name was Raven Raven? That's so Raven.
Sarai, Anahi, Citlali/Xitlali and Vero were pretty common at my last school (mostly Mexican descent). I think they are all lovely. I also liked Azucena (although the kid went by Susie). Most of the kids at my new school have crazy youneek names or more traditional Anglo names.
This year I like Marielle (mah-ree-EL) and Hugo
I kid you not, a friend of mine [also a teacher] has had L/a [that slash should be a hyphen, but I'm on mobile]. The name is pronounced LuhDashUh. Not kidding.
Same teacher [she teaches in a rough area] has a kid named Dalasone....he's the 5th child in his family and therefore, the last one [Da Las One].
Some people shouldn't reproduce.
Yep, I actually went to ask the mother because I thought the nurses had filled out the PKU card wrong, but they named her Raven and her last name was a hypenated name the first being Raven. They were a train wreck, in many, many ways.

Do you teach at a Jewish school? Because Sarai and Zipporah stand out to me as OT Biblical names. I wouldn't have a clue how to prounounce those C names.
in my experience Citlali (sometimes spelled with an x) is zeet-lah-lee or seet-lah-lee
Xochitl is another one that comes to mind (Zoh-chee or zoh-cheetl, sometimes zoh-shee) in that same school.
I love Sarai
Seriously?

Yep!
I like Sayuri. I wouldn't side eye that because I know that it's Japanese. It's a legit name, even if taken from a novel.
Names I've had in the past that stood out were Aolani, Pebbles, Heaven pronounced Haven, Philomena, Madison for a boy, D'Artagnan and Tzeitel.
I know a Sarai and a couple Tzipporahs (pronounced Tsi-por-ah, nn Tzippy) in their early 30s. Both names are regularly used among orthodox Jews.
I also know a little Zitlalli (nn Lalli). I think it's a very pretty name.
I'm a teacher as well. The names you see through the years are definitely interesting!
Elmer
Adut (uh-doot)
Ruvi
Sema'j (James spelled backwards... yes.)
Marty (I don't hate it, you just don't usually see it on a kindergartner)
Shyann
