Good Parenting/Pregnancy Magazines

I posted this over on the nest, but I thought I would ask the bump, too!  My sil is due in late April/early May.  For Christmas dh and I are getting her a gift card to Babies 'R Us and we were thinking a magazine subscription about pregnancy/parenting (this is her first).  However, the magazines we have currently looked at didn't really seem to fit her.  She just needs to basics (a little background, she is only 17 and really doesn't appear to have any idea about the basics of having a child/being a parent.  However, stuff like designing the nursery and finding good classes are out since neither apply to her).  Are there any good magazines that y'all would recommend?  Or perhaps a book that would help her?

We really want to give her something that will be useful because I suspect she will feel very overwhelmed when the baby arrives.  But, I've never been pregnant or even had a younger sibling so I have no clue where to start!!

Thanks for you help ladies, it is very much appreciated! :)

Re: Good Parenting/Pregnancy Magazines

  • I didn't subscribe to any mags, but I highly, highly suggest getting her the DVD Happiest Baby on the Block. There's also a book, but she might like the DVD better. LOTS of great, simple advice on how to calm baby, swaddling, etc. It saved our life the first few months. Maybe a fun book as well? Jenny McCarthy has authored a few PG books; I haven't read them, but lots of people like the humorous slant on PG and she tells it like it is.
