Do you feel like it messes with TTC? DH is a pilot, and now we have to try and get his schedule to where he can be home at the right times. One girlfriend whose husband is also a pilot is flying out to where he's overnighting to make it work! Do any of you deal with this?
Re: Anyone else's DH travel for work?
DH is sometimes required to travel (road construction). We've been lucky that he hasn't been on the road much lately. However, I did have to make a trip last fall because he was a few hours away on a deer hunting trip.

*Taking a break*
However, my husband works 3rd shift, so it does make it a lil difficult. Summers are a little bit better since I am off work which gives us more time.
Yeah, my H travels roughly 7-10 days a month for work. We're fortunate that he can mostly pick when he needs to travel, and my cycles are pretty predictable, but it can still be tricky to plan 2 months out, which he sometimes has to do. We've lucked out so far that he only once has cut it really close.
I like the idea of flying to where he is, though! Fun!
DH works field service and regularly covers SC, NC, GA and TN. He's been home a lot lately, but he's usually gone 2-3 nights/week. In his last position, he traveled nationwide and was gone 3-4 weeks at a time.
It used to mess with TTC, but since he usually isn't gone for more than 2 nights in a row it's no big deal. If he's out of town during FW then we do it the morning he leaves and the night he comes back. Even if I O in the middle of that, we hit O-1 and O+1.
ETA: If he's gone for 4 days or more, I've been known to drive to where he's working and stay in the hotel for a night.
April 2013: Femara + Trigger + IUI = ???
Mine travels weekly for work. He's heading back out next Monday after 2 months at home. It definitely impacted things as far as timing goes. We thought we'd have the last 2 months to get great timing, but the universe had other plans. We just tried to have sex when he was home. Sperm can survive up to 5 days. Try not to stress about hitting O day exactly. Mine is usually only home on Thursday night- Sunday. Even hitting Friday & Sunday on those weeks, timing was still pretty good. GL!
ETA: If you can get to where he is or he can arrange to be home, that's awesome. For us, me going to him wasn't an option because it wasn't & will not be driving distance.
Hollyween I know, if I didn't work and had someone who could watch DS, it could be really fun! We used to do that all the time when we were dating I was a flight attendant then.
I have friends whose husbands work for other airlines and commute to Chicago! They are only looking at 10 days off a month, not including travel days which can whittle it down to about 8. Not the best for TTC, that's why I count myself as really lucky.
Aww. Well, you never know! I hope it's delayed a little bit too. Sucks to lose out on a whole month of TTC or 2! just because of that.
My husband travels fairly frequently domestically and internationally. He has only missed 1 entire fertile week, and I'm not going to lie it made me mental. Flying to meet him really isn't an option, so I mostly just had to change how I thought about it. I'm a worst case scenario thinker by nature, and I really just had to keep repeating to myself, "it's just one cycle".
It does get in the way though, and it seems to add an element of stress.
Good luck!
Mine travels a TON, but fortunately it's somewhat within his control. We try our best to avoid having him gone at the "best" TTC times, but we've had a month or two where we couldn't make that happen.
Is your DH a commercial pilot? Can he take over some local commuter routes that would let him get back most nights for the short term?
Luckyfrgg - He is, but he can't pick up smaller trips since they don't have any. They only fly long legs, mostly trans-continental. However he can manipulate his schedule to get the days off he wants - he can give away trips he doesn't like or trip-trade to get something better.
Ellewills - That is exactly my outlook. Some people can't relate whatsoever, and it's hilarious when people ask me where DH is and I'm like, *shrug*. It's best to have that positive attitude, helps a lot.
