I always see the dads name used for the first born son. We didn't consider it for our first son because it didn't flow with the first name but it's possible for a 2nd son in the MN slot. Due in 2 days and still haven't decided on names!
I find it strange when the second son is the jr and not the first but in this case I don't think it's weird. You had a reason not to use it the first time.

This. We are actually considering using DH's mn as mn for a future DS.
Never an odd time as a mn. I'm actually OK with a 2nd son Jr if there is a good reason. I'm hoping to use Dh's name as a man for our daughter. My mil got in on the gender crossing names trend over 30 years ago. Use it however you'd like
Not strange at all. My FIL split his names between his sons and I thought it was a fun thing to do without getting into "jr" territory. Funny thing is, DH is the second son and he's the one who ended up with the generational family name. We thought about doing the same thing for our sons, but we ended up passing on the family name to DS1 and naming DS2 after our grandfathers.
DS1 - 9;
DS2 - 6;
Angel - May 10, 2011;
Baby Girl - Due May 19, 2013
I don't think it's odd at all. My son's mn is my husband's name even though he has an older son.
Also, my dad is the oldest in his family but his younger brother is the jr. When my grandma was pregnant a close family friend died and they named my dad after him. No one ever thought it was weird that the second son was named after the dad.

The tradition in DH's family is to give the son the father's MN as his first name.
DH is David Michael, so DS would theoretically be Michael _____________.
We won't be using it if this baby is a boy, but maybe in the future.
Go with what you like!
