I have PCOS, but have never been on met, and am not pregnant. Maybe the ladies on first trip can help you a little better, you know, since they are pregnant....
Metformin did get me Ovulating right away. I started taking it around the end of September and I got pregnant in March. We were not actively trying at that time but not preventing. Unfortunately it ended in m/c. But I am confident that metformin got me ovulating again finally!
I took Met for 6 months and it did not help me ovulate. My RE took me off of it because I'm not IR. What helped me start ovulating was to lose a bunch of weight (50lbs).
Married 1/2/99.
TTC since 4/09.
Diagnosed PCOS. Diagnosed Hypothryoid 11/09.
SHG & SA normal. PCOS Research study started 5/10.
Clomid/Femara cycle #1 - 6/10 = BFN
Clomid/Femara cycle #2 - 7/10 = BFP #1 - Missed miscarriage 9/2/10
11/12 - BFP #2 - 11/22 - m/c
5/1/11 - BFP #3 - Pre-eclampsia, IUGR & bed rest from 32w. DD born via induction 1/4/12.
I'm starting it again today. The first time I was on it I was not ovulating on my own, I ovulated my first cycle off it. Now I'm ovulating naturally, only going on it for IR.
Has your Dr done any ultrasounds or b/w since you've been on it to confirm that you are ovulating? Are you charting your BBT?
I started taking Met in September. I started ovulating right away and have had fairly regular cycles since then (cycles ranging from 27-46 days). I did have 2 cycles with no ovulation and needed Provera. However, I'm pretty happy with the results. Obviously I'm not KU yet but I'm hopeful. GL to you.

I started in metformin 500mg/day about two or three years ago. It did nothing, but my crappy doc at the time didn't even explain to me that it should help regulate my cycles....though I didn't ask what I was on it for either, so my bad as well (I knew it was for PCOS, but that was the extent of my knowledge).
After a year or two I asked a new doctor if we should try upping it so she put me on 1000mg/day. Still nothing.
When I started seeing my RE last September, she upped it to 1500/day. Once I took provera to bring on my period, I ovulated that cycle. Granted it wasn't until CD34, but it was my first O in a year so clearly the metformin helped. I did get pregnant that cycle, but don't forget, metformin getting you to O is only half the battle. We were very lucky to get pregnant the first cycle I Od, but metformin won't help the sperm meet the egg.
