Trying to Get Pregnant

How do you deal with Cramps?

Hey ladies-

AF started for me this morning and I am dealing with some pretty serious cramps. A little back info- I've always had pretty severe cramping. My DR started me on Depo in HS to take away AF, allowing me to not have any cramping. I had the implanon inserted a few years later and it was just removed in Feb., so the whole AF thing is sort of new again to me.

I take OTC painkillers and have a pretty nice heating pad that I use to help with the cramps.

How do you ladies deal with cramping? Just wanting to know if there were other things I could be doing to help.

Thanks!

Re: How do you deal with Cramps?

  • Aleve seens to work better for my cramps than other OTC pain killers. One other thing I love to do is lie down in the shower and turn on the water so the spray hits my lower stomach....its way more soithing to me than a heating pad.

  • Pamprin.  I loooooove Pamprin.  I don't usually need anything, but when I do that's what I use.  It helps with other symptoms too like bitchiness and bloating ;-)

  • Use aleve! It actually blocks the pain receptors so it works a lot better than tylenol. I also use a heating pad.  I dont have any tips other than what you've tried already :( Feel better!

  • Aleve is the only OTC pain killer that helps me too. Other than that I'm usually stuck finding a comfortable position to lay in and staying there.

Sometimes instead of a heating pad I'll microwave a damp hand towel. It gets a lot hotter so it's more soothing for me anyway. I know there are some foods you can eat prior to AF that are supposed to help. Make sure you stay hydrated right before too.
  • Another fan of Aleve right here!  For me, it's either taking 2 of any other kind of 4-hour painkiller every 2 hours or taking 2 Aleve twice a day.

  • Aleve. Also I have found that getting up and moving around helps immensely. My cramps were always at their worst if I was sitting or laying down.

This has been a major benefit of charting.. knowing what day my period was coming so I could take Aleve first thing. :
  • I'm a Midol girl! That always helps me right away. Drinking water, laying down or walking depending on the severity.

  • Looks like I have to try Aleve. Never really used it before.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I took a long hot bath that really seemed to help. We are going out with some friends later so I'll definitely be having some wine :)

  • I've had Implanon for almost 3 years and will be getting it removed on Monday.....I totally forgot about the cramps since AF hasn't visited me this whole time. yikes! I'm glad someone pointed out Aleve because I can't have anything with caffeine in it (so that means no midol or pure milk chocolate). Did removing the Implanon hurt?

    Tylenol, warm showers, laying on the couch or curled up. Also, stretching and walking have helped ease the pain and help take my mind of the pain.nbsp;

    This, and my heating pad.
