When did you stop giving food pouches/pur?es to your LO's?

  • I still give my son toddler ones once in a while if on the run or something.

  • DD is almost 3 and she still loves fruit pouches. I let her have probably 2 a week. They're not as good as actual fruit, but DD loves fruit and veggies, so I'm not so worried about that. There are certainly worse snacks she could be eating Smile
  • After he got sick off a couple because they went bad due to temperature fluctuations in the house. During the winter the house is 62 during the day and 70 in the mornings and evenings. That was enough for them to go bad. He was probably 16months. I haven't trusted them since.

DH found a few articles on the pouches going bad before the dates on them due to normal temperature changes.

  • Dd is 2 and the only way she'll eat any veggies is from the toddler veggie/fruit pouches.
  • My son is 15 months and has recently decided that he will not eat fruit or veggies unless they are pures. I figure pouches and pures are better than no fruit or veggies.

this is my DS! He'll be 2 next week and he'll only eat pur?ed veggies. I'll make veggies and still offer it to him but he just won't touch it. Loves them pur?ed! Meat, fruit, etc he'll eat normal.

  • We stopped all puree's around 14mo.

  • We stopped pures early like maybe 7 or 8 months. She was into finger foods early.

She's never had a pouch. Nothing against them, just never had them around. Might try some this summer when we're travelling though.

  • DD loves them.  she will be three in september and still asks for them as a treat.  we rarely buy them except when traveling, but she is in hog heaven when she has one.  she can also down it in less than 60 seconds.  i too figure she could be having worse snacks, i'd just prefer she eat solids.

  • DD is 2.5 and I use them to put into her plain yogurt or cottage cheese for flavor.

Does anyone use the refillable pouches? Would that be something good to register for?

We got a Sili squeeze and it just wasn't worth it. If I can get the pouches on a good sale it's fine. Plus, they're good on the go- but you definitely don't want to make a habit of them.

  • DD is 3.5 and still really likes the fruit pouches. I send them in her lunch for preschool sometimes. I actually went to an end of the year picnic with her class, and at the table we sat at, 3 out of the 5 kids had a pouch in their lunch.

  • I rarely give them anymore, just if we're out.  I've been buying the carrot apple crushers from Trader Joe's.  It's probably once or twice a month.

And I am planning on getting the Infantino squeeze station for this LO so I can make my own.

  • Pouches are great snacks.

We do BLW so our babies never get purees. But our toddlers love pouches. I have no plan of stopping them. I can throw some in my diaper bag and if the girls get cranky while we are out, they can slurp down some healthy snack. My kids eat the veggies and fruit pouches with no extra added. So no extra sugar or crap.

I also throw fruit in my bag, but I have to be more careful with bruising it or having it eaten before it goes bad. I

  • My 3.5 year old still does pouches. They are great on the go snacks or something to put in a lunch for a long day out. We don't use them at home. If she wants applesauce at home she can use a spoon and bowl.

  • We have them on the go sometimes as a snack, not really as "real" food.  We buy the ones at Trader Joe's or the Applesauce from Costco, not the baby food ones.  My kindergarten students would sometimes bring them for snack, too.  So... big kids like them also!  I put out a bunch of the applesauce ones at DD's 2nd birthday and a couple of the dads ate them, haha!

We generally stopped all baby food purees around 12 months I think (as far as meals go).  DD was just more interested in whatever we were eating.
