So there are two confirmed cases and one possible case of coxsackie at my daycare. I'm keeping LO home tomorrow even though they said she would have already been exposed. Apparently an infant in the class had a high fever causing seizures. The ER said it was coxsackie but the ped said there were no other signs. My sister and her triplets all had this and she said it was pretty bad.
so am I being overprotective or would u take LO out for the day too?
Re: Coxsackie
I think you should do what feels right.
A case went through our daycare last month. We didn't pull out LO, but we were super paranoid and searching for rashes and sores for several weeks. She ended up being fine thankfully. It is very common, so I won't be surprised to see it go through again before the summer is over.

Haha i know! Makes me say ballsackie haha
I second the high fever (which can mean different things for different kids) and the seizures - some kids just get them - some don't. Its scary but you can't protect your kids from everything.
I worked the infant room (ran it actually) at a center for 5+ years and we probably had 15 times when hand, foot and mouth went through the center. To be fair we only had one outbreak in our room in that time (we were super strict about who was allowed in the room - but ultimately siblings spread it) - most commonly this was found in the 2 year old room and I just kind of figure its one of those things your kid is going to get once. Yes - I'm with you - I'd prefer my kid to be older. But honestly? Its most contagious RIGHT BEFORE the symptoms... so most likely - damage is done
Now - that doesn't mean that a 2nd kid to get it couldn't expose your LO - but as other said it lingers for ever.. (outbreaks at the center were often a month long) - so just know that a few days may or may not "help protect you'
If you have the option and you'd feel better about it - go do it.. but I know I'm out enough with the normal flu, cold, various high fevers, etc that I try to limit it - also my LO really strives on the routine of daycare so we try not to take her out.
