Re: (Untitled)

  • Depends on the number of placentas. If you click on my blog link, there's a page under "about" that explains the different kinds of twins/triplets.

I'm on my phone so I can't get the link right now.

  • We transferred 3 embryos and are pregnant with di/di twins.  Our RE, OB, and MFM have all told us that it's likely they are fraternal (two implanted), but that they don't know for certain that they aren't identical (one split).  We had CVS testing done and even that can't provide such information.  The only way we will know for sure is if they don't look similar or through genetic testing once they are born (which we doubt we'd ever do).

Our twins are di/di -- meaning there are two placentas and two amniotic sacs (one for each, nothing shared).

    Here ya go: https://pyjammy.com/types-of-twinstriplets/

Monochorionic diamniotic means twins in the same gestational sac sharing a placenta.  They have a very thin dividing membrane since they have their own amniotic sacs.  Your Dr. should be able to diagnose them as mono on the first u/s but sometimes it takes a while for the membrane to be visualized.  These twins are always identical thus why they both come from the same embryo.

With identical twins, if the split happens early like in the first 1-3 days they will be di/di and appear just as fraternal twins do in utero.  A split after 3-4 days will result in monochorionic  twins.  So if you did a 5 day transfer, identical twins pretty much have to be mono/di or mo/mo (one amniotic sac, very rare).

  • At a very early ultrasound mo di or mo mo twins will have one larger black gestational sac, whereas di di twins have two black gestational sacs. We knew we either had mo mo or mo di twins since there was just the one black gestational sac. Well, that and we only transferred one embryo.
Married 8/2008. IVF with PGD March 2013.
    3/22 ER: 25R, 20M, 15F. 9 genetically normal, and 3 survived to Day 5
    3/27 ET: transferred 1 embryo, beta 9dp5dt=163, 12dp5dt=639
4/25 1st ultrasound at 7 weeks = identical twins with heartbeats?!!!
