Trying to Get Pregnant

Intro

Hi,

I am new here.  My name is Meg (27) and my DH is Joe (28).  We just celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary, and we are ready to start TTC.  After being on birth control pills for 9 years, I went off them in November.  We weren't planning on TTC until May, since we had a cruise booked, but I wanted to give my body some time off the pill.

I guess last month was our first cycle "trying" but it was kind of halfassed.  Since my cycle started the day before we went away, I wasn't temping or charting.  We just did the BD a bunch of times just to see.  During the 2WW, we started gearing up for our 2nd cycle.

I started lurking this board, and I downloaded the fertility friend app.  I bought a basal body thermometer and I started temping/charting.  I ordered some OPKs, which will be here tomorrow.

Needless to say, I got AF yesterday.  I am so ready for it to be gone, so we can really start trying.

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone else have issues temping?  I always have had issues with this.  It takes me forever to get a reading, and when I do, it seems low and all over the place.  Any suggestions for this?

  • Welcome!

just make sure you are waking up at the sameeeeeee time every morning. It is hard at first, but it becomes habit. And make sure you got a few hours of consecutive good sleep.

    That's all I know. Ha.

  • Welcome. I'm confused about taking forever to get a reading? Which thermometer are you using? I use the Mabis one and it takes 60 seconds typically.

  • Its a CVS brand one.  It says it takes 60 seconds, but it usually takes longer than that.

  • My temp typically runs lower than normal. It was surprising when I first started charting, but it's the same 4 years later and a new thermometer.

  • Welcome! My DH and I are doing something similar. I'm going off the BC pill in about 2 weeks in order to give my cycle some time to get back to normal before we start TTC in January. I bought the Mabis BBT from Amazon and opened an account with FF so I can temp to make sure I start ovulating again. I haven't used it yet though, so can't help you with your temping issue. Sorry :/ Best of luck to you!!!

  • I agree, temping at the same time every day after at least three hours of sleep is best. Also, waking up to an alarm vs. a gradual, natural wake-up is best. I felt like my temps were a bit erratic, so I started setting an alarm for 6:30am, waking up just to temp, and then going back to sleep. If that doesn't work, vaginal temping is a perfectly legitimate option.

Welcome to the board, and GL!

  • Welcome and good luck to you!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who waited a little to start TTC because of a booked cruise. lol. We have one booked for this September so had to wait until May to start trying so that I wasn't past the 24 week mark at the start of the cruise just in case we were successful right away.

Ditto. Sometimes you end up sitting there waiting for it to beep and it feels like forever.

    Welcome and good luck!
  • Good luck! My second month TTC just started yesterday, well Tuesday.

  • Welcome and GL!

I just want to add, temping at the same time is crucial IMO. My thermometer just came from Walmart. I got it when TTC my DS. Worked fine and seemed to take longer than other types of thermometers, but I trust it.

  • Thanks everyone! I was temping at the same time every morning when my alarm went off. But DH gets up earlier than me, so sometimes I wake up, go to the bathroom, etc and then go back to bed. So this morning I set my alarm for the same time as his and took my temp then. I have my alarm set to go off at that time every day now.
