Spoken by someone who has obviously never had a baby....

I'm watching "what not wear" and Stacy just said "maternity clothes after the baby is born, make no sense at all". Obviously this woman has never ever had a baby. Someone in editing should have caught that..

  • hahaha. I mean maybe if your child is already driving, then it might be time to go back to regular jeans. But there is a need for maternity clothes after baby. Most people don't leave the hospital in there prepregnancy jeans. I will probably still be wearing maternity clothes for a year after.

Sorry to hijack your post, but rather than start a new post; as someone who hasn't had a baby yet I guess it is not a good idea to tell someone they can borrow your maternity clothes after you've given birth? That is because I will probably want to keep wearing them myself for awhile?

  • Haven't had a baby before either but my friend who lent me some suits said she needed to stay in maternity clothes for about 4 months post baby. I have no idea what to expect...I am 35 weeks and have gained 40 lbs so far.

  • Well I guess if you have a ton of disposable income so you can get a new in between wardrobe then yeah she has a point but really who doesn't wear at least SOME mat clothes post partum??

  • Most of my friends have to ware their maternity clothes for at least a few
months pp . I'm lucky I guess . This is my fourth child and up till recently when I had to get something for my BIL's wedding I haven't ever bought anything maternity other then my tummy sleeves. I'm 35 weeks right now and I'm sitting here in my pre pregnancy jeans and shirt. I have to ware my tummy sleeves for a few months pp but that's it . I don't think wareing your pregnancy clothes for sometime after your baby is born is a bad thing but ten years pp you might need to rethink the wardrobe .

My maternity slacks are so amazingly comfortable I never want to wear any other pants for life.

Truth. The idea of zipper or buttons post partum made me want to weep. I love maternity pants.

Me too, the day I got my first pair of maternity pants was one of the best days of my life. I felt free.

  • A lot of my maternity tops emphasize my belly, which I love now. I won't be wearing those after baby because I'd rather camouflage my belly while it shrinks. Maternity pants, I'll continue to wear as needed (except full panel ones). Most tops will go right into storage.

I don't know.  Those GAP maternity jeans with the half waist band, I would never wear after having a csection.  yikes!  I go into full PJ/lounge wear most of the time.

With a 1 year old, I agree with Stacy London. You may not be in your old size, but then again, you might never be in your old size ever again (not just weight, your body changes, things get wider and may not go back), but after a year, if you aren't pregnant, time to put away the maternity clothes.

  • I agree, four months in maternity clothes post baby was about what it took me last time. However, I can see how some moms make the tabboo transition from maternity pants to daily yoga pants. Yoga pants get a bad rep but having to go back to buttons and zippers and low waist bands was like torture at first!

  • After the initial 6-8 weeks I mostly wore regular--but comfy--clothes. It was summer and I got a few pairs of shorts that were stretchy/drawstring waist from Old Navy in a size bigger than normal and also yoga type pants and shorts. I wore a few maternity shirts that didn't emphasize the tummy too much, but mostly I wore nursing tanks and tops that I could easily nurse in. I remember venturing out to buy jeans that Fall (so DD was about 4 months old). I remember it was hard and I ended up in a size bigger because my stomach was still kind of round until like a year PP.
