Baby Names

Thoughts on Aaron?

I'm looking to name baby #2, a boy, due Dec 2nd but planning on arriving via RCS end of Nov.  DD is Katelyn.  Our last name is LONG, 3 syllables, 9 letters, lots of Ses. Kind of like Kaminski.

Our "rules" are the child cant have same name as a family member or friend, due to our last name it needs to be easy last name and cant be in top 10 popularity.

I LOVE Ian but DH worked for one who was a jerk so that name is out. I also love William but cant due to Will/Kate as I posted about a week ago.

We were searching and found Aaron. We like it. But I'm not in LOVE with it.

Thoughts?

  • Love it as a boys name!

  • It has family significance, so I like it a lot. Other than that I think it is a nice, classic name that is underused.

    I like Aaron a lot.

I do not pronounce this like Erin so I don't think of the whole "unisex" name situation that other people will inevitably bring up.

How do you pronounce it?  I say them both like AIR-in.  I didn't know there was another way.

OP, I like it, simple, classic and not overused.

  • I think it is nice.  I have a nephew named Aaron.  I also know a sibset that is Ian and Aaron (which I thought was a little too close, but obviously the parents both liked those names as well). I pronounce Erin and Aaron exactly the same.  I think it is a regional thing.  The unisex nature of it would bother me, but if I loved the name it wouldn't ruin it.  I noticed pp mentioned that they pronounce them differently.  It seems like a Philly thing.
  • I only know the AIR-IN pronounciation. Unisex doesnt bother me.

  • I love Aaron. Would love to have it be in the running for a name for a future son if I have one, but DH is not on board.

    I like Aaron.

Aaron and Erin are too totally different names.  THey are NOT unisex because they are completely different names with totally different origins even if you say them the same way.

Moving on...my LN is like yours and we have Eli....kinda similar to Ian.  Just throwing that out there.

I love the idea of Eli!

  • Aaron is a fine name, but I do think that it's boring.

  • I like it, but I'm biased as it's my DH's name. :) I also pronounce Aaron and Erin differently, but my DH says it was annoying growing up with a name so similar to a girls' name.

Yup. Two different pronunciations.  It seems like only people from the Northeast pronounce them differently.

  • Aaron is a good strong name!

And fwiw, I also like William and don't think Will/Kate would be a big deal. :)

  • Great name!  DS#2 is Aaron James and I always get  compliments on his name.  Classic, strong, and underused :-)
