On Friday (June 7th) we headed into the hospital for a scheduled c section due to our little one's breech position. It was actually super nice having a scheduled day and being able to spend the morning with DD before leaving her with her grandparents and heading in. Here is my very last bump picture at 39 weeks 1 day as we headed in to the hospital
Surgery was originally scheduled for noon but we got bumped back and ended up going in around 1pm. I was nervous for the spinal as I have rods on both sides of my spine from scoliosis correction surgery when I was 18. But, the spinal went in fine and barely even felt like a pinch! I was super nervous for surgery but having my husband there for support made me feel a million time better. However, as surgery got started things quickly turned scary. When they pulled Levi out his cord was wrapped tightly around his neck and he was completely blue. They rushed him to the incubator and immediately bagged him trying to get his color back and get him breathing. He scored a 0 on his initial apgar and it took them a good minute to two minutes before he started crying. During this time I started feeling way more then I should on the operating table so the anesthesiologist pushed a huge dose of morphine and fentanyl to try and get me thru the surgery. DH and Levi went up to the nursery to finish his tests and I fell asleep on the operating table from the large dose of medication. About an hour and a half later I was finally out of recovery and got to hold Levi for the first time.
I seriously can't believe how big he was! (8 pounds 9 ounces) as DD was a small 7 pounder and we were expecting close to the same size. But, after the initial scare in the OR they determined he was healthy and looking great! My doctor was so glad we decided against the ECV since his cord was so short and wrapped so tightly around his neck.
Here is a picture of big sister meeting Levi for the first time...she is absolutely in love and doing beyond amazing with him.
And finally a picture of our little man! He is so loved and such a good baby so far. He is doing great with breastfeeding and loves to be held. My recovery has been a little rough so far but I expected that and I'm just getting thru it!
