Breastfeeding

Intro/New & a question

I'm not sure if y'all introduce yourselves over here, but I figured before I jumped in I'd at least say hello.

My son was born on 03/29 & has been EBF since birth, with the exception of the few formula bottles we had to give him when my supply completely tanked after getting Mirena. We haven't had too many issues, aside from mastitis that quickly cleared up and a clogged milk duct in the very beginning.

My question is my son is nearly inconsolable when I'm at work (which unfortunately is two 12 hour shifts and two 8 hour shifts) He will eat breastmilk out of a bottle just fine, but is still whining and occasionally screaming until he's rocked to sleep or can be comforted. My DH brought him to my office last night and he nursed until he fell asleep. He said that he was calmer and more content, but with a 3.5 year old DD and a rather demanding job (I'm a police dispatcher) I won't always have a chance to step out of my office to nurse him.  have any of you experienced this? How were your LO's comforted by your absence?

Sorry in advance for my rambling post! :)

  • Welcome! Have your DH watch The Happiest Baby on The Block. You can probably get the DVD or book at your local library. Worst case scenario, I'm sure there are YouTube videos that demonstrate his 5 S's, swaddling, sucking, swaying, shushing, and something else?

  • I will definitely be looking for the DVD! I left him my nursing tank top that I had been wearing yesterday and my husband said he seemed unaffected by it... I'm not really sure what to think of the whole situation but I am starting to feel guilty for his separation anxiety... My DD who was only formula fed never had separation issues until she got to be around 9 or 10 months and realized we left. My parents, who aren't supportive of my breastfeeding, even told my husband that it was my fault for "getting him attached to the boob". :(
