A few years ago, I worked as a pet photographer for awhile. I had started to buy some of my own equipment so I could freelance, although I never did it. And lately, I'd completely forgotten about it all until someone from my cat rescue asked me to do pictures of the cats for their website. I used to do a lot of pictures for them, including the Santa picture fundraiser they used to do each year.
So I've decided to try to pick it back up. Since I already have equipment, there's practically no startup costs. I've set up a Facebook page, and have posted an ad on Craigslist. I'll have business cards printed up soon and will figure out some other ways to spread the word and bring in business.
I feel like this is kind of a no-brainer, and I'm surprised that I'd forgotten about it. I've gotten so into baking these days that I forgot about other marketable skills I have. I'm still going to try to do cakes, but right now my pet photo portfolio is better and more extensive than my cake portfolio is. And I almost have a degree in small business management, so the business side of things should be pretty simple. I'm pretty much available anytime for appointments right now, as I'm still looking for work but currently unemployed. I've got nothing to lose. It's pretty exciting!
Re: Starting a business
My husband and I have started a new athletic product business while he still works full time. Its been great but exteremely time consuming until we get our manufacturing squared away overseas. You can check it out on www.crossrope.com and also on Facebook under the same name.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've owned two dance studios and a children's boutique. Now that I'm just a mom, I'm bored to death! lol I miss running a business and the craziness that ensues.
