Do stains affect usability?

I was wondering why there is such a hullabaloo about getting stains out of cloth diapers. Is it just for aesthetic reasons, for resale, or do stains in some way contribute to shorter life span or increased issues?

I think it's just for resale or the fact that CD mamas can get crazy about their CDs. You pay pretty good money for them and want to keep them nice. If you notice most of us say "my" stash or "my" diapers when if fact they are for LO. You become proud of your CDs, lol.
