I used cloth diapers at a daycare I worked at for 3 years and plan to get a cloth diaper service when my baby is born. You will end up needing some disposable for trip, swimming pools, and other reasons but the cloth ones are great for 95 of the time. Some believe kids potty train faster in cloth diapers because they are more aware of the wetness.
I'm a FTM and I'm gonna try it. Registered for some Bum Genius ones at Buy Buy Baby. I've watched a lot of YouTube videos and read blogs about how to pick them and care for them. Seems like washing them will be the most time consuming. I would like to have enough to go 3 days between washing.
Yes we are planning on CDing as well. If you are on a comp, check out the Cloth Diaperig board here on TB and lurk their posts some, they also have a really helpful FAQ section at the top of the board... But you have to be on a comp or I guess a tablet not mobile to see it. Also the YouTube series Cloth Diapering 101 comes highly recommended, I've only had a chance to watch part 1 of 7 so far. Already I feel more confident lol.
There are tons of STMs on this BMB who are experienced CDers and they have been super helpful in pointing us FTMs in the right direction. It is a lot of research and can be overwhelming but just do a little at a time. That's what I have been doing.
I cloth diaper my son and will do so with this next LO. I love it! We use mostly onesize pockets. I like bum genius, fuzzibunz elites, happy heiny's and rumparooz. I also like Charlie banana and you can get them at target. The cloth diapering board is a great resource.
We have decided we are going to do it! I'm a FTM and did a fair amount of research, now need to start buying the shells and inserts, prob going to use grovia and thirsties!
I cloth diaper and love it... it is time consuming to do the laundry, but it saves us so much money!!! As a SAHM I like to save money and plan on reusing my stash for this little girl!
FTM and we are hoping to use them. So far we only have 2 cotton and a bamboo in funky fluff . We are very excited and are looking to get a few more different brands to try and then decide which we like best,
We have used them since DS was a week old and love them. I do use disposables for travel, but I use a reusable diaper for swimming.
You will likely need some sort of newborn stash. We used Green Mountain Diapers refolds and a few of their workhorse fitted with covers. This time I am going to add a few Fuzzibunz XS and BumGenius newborns for the middle of the night. DS was 8 lbs and 21.5 inches when he was born and he didn't fit into the Fuzzibunz smalls or the BumGenius 4.0s until he was 10 weeks old.
I personally prefer pockets. They go on like disposables, but you can customize how much absorbency you need. As he's gotten older and pees more, we have needed to add some doublers. Fitteds seem like work to me because you need the fitted and the cover and while I loved prefolds for a newborn, I was happy to switch to pockets at 10 weeks. I know some people love All-in-Ones, but I have heard they take a long time to dry.
Our preferred brands are Fuzzibunz Perfect Size and BumGenius. I would suggest a diaper trial from Jillians Drawers or someplace so you can try out a variety and see what works for you. I wouldn't order all one brand until you know you like it. I ended up hating the Fuzzibunz One Size, but love their Perfect Size diapers, so you just never know.
I don't find the laundry to be a big deal. It changes a bit as they get older, but it's always been ok.
Good luck and ask questions! The amount if information can be overwhelming!

Thanks for the tip!
I've been looking into cloth diapering and it sounds like its all about trial and error to see which brands work the best for you and fit your little kids heini the best.
We are CDing. I was able to get most of our newborn stash off craigslist and discount websites, we'll start once baby comes home from the hospital. Our one size stash consists of many different brands and 15 cloth diapers DH's cousin sent us for free :-)
Two of my older sisters used them and loved them. I'm planning on using them most of the time Does any one know where to buy them at a reasonable price?
We cloth diaper DS and will for thIs LO too. We use prefolds and fitteds 100%of the time....traveling, overnight, everything. And we have a reusable swim diaper. It really isn't hard at all. My husband and I were blown away by how much we enjoy using the cloth diapers. We both find disposables kind of gross now too...which is an interesting reaction I didn't expect. Not to mention the piles of money we have saved already...
We cloth diapered DD and really liked it. There is a lot to learn at first, but once you get the hang of it it's no big deal at all. All her diapers are still in great condition, so we're set for #2! I'm almost disappointed. I want to buy more, haha! If you are at all wondering about it I would totally look into it. It saved us so much money, they are super cute, and I felt really good about the decision (environmentally). I did get some rude comments from a few people, saying they were "gross" but they were absolutely clean (NOT gross) and those people only spurred me on to keep going at it!
We started around 8 months with DD but plan on doing it from the start with this LO. It can be overwhelming as there is so much information out there. I did a lot of blog and board stalking and made a few friends who did cloth that I could ask all my dumb questions to
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
I used them from day one with dd, we told the hospital to skip the 'sposie. We use prefolds with covers at home, and she uses bum genius pockets at school. We have a reusable swim diaper, and haven't been on a trip longer than over night, so we just pack enough diapers to come with us. I could see how if we were going to be gone like a week, with no facilities, how that could be tricky though.

FTM and I just ordered my first ones from cottonbabies.com. I mainly bought the prefolds to try them out without spending a ton of money. I have 2 AIO Bumgenius. I didn't think I'd be into something like cloth diapering, but the more I've researched it, the more I'm excited about it. I read the FAQ on here and watched the cloth diapering 101 on YouTube that the CD board recommended. Helped a lot, since the CD board was a bit overwhelming at first.

I use them with my daughter. It is completely doable. It saves a ton of money and they are super cute.
