3rd Trimester

Why SO much pain only at 2 cm?

Im in so much pain when I get in and out the car, roll over, get off the couch, walk, simply STAND etc. The pain is in my lower stomach and obviously gets way worse during braxton hicks and baby movements.  Found out I was still at 2cm today and wanted to cry because if this is how much 2 hurts I can only imagine how much worse it will get!!!!! I was 60% effaced last week and Im sure it went up since then but doc didnt tell me how much today.

However, when I was 2 cm dilated with my son, I didn't even know and felt fine and normal.. even though my belly was way huger etc.  WHY all this pain? What could be causing it?

  • It is probably ligament pain and not related to dilation.  My midwife old me that the ligament pain is usually far worse with #2 because the relaxing hormones are much more effective this time around.

But check with your doc at your next visit.

  • Is it a burning/cramping across pelvis?  I have it too and I'm not dilated yet!  I thought it was cramps but lig pain makes more sense.  Mine is worse at pm.

  • I'm having tremendous pressure in my pelvis and vagina this time around.  I had it with DD1 around 34/35 weeks, but it started around 25 weeks with this one.  My OB checked me just to be on the safe side, and I'm not dilated at all.  (Thank god!)

It kills when I first sit down, when I roll over in bed, etc. So as PPs said, I think your pain is unrelated to the little dilation you've had.  Good luck!

And yes, I have much more pain in that area than I did when I was pregnant with my first son.
