Breastfeeding

stinging

I'm 2 weeks pp, EBF, and my nipples sting and tingle. I'm wondering if this is normal. It's like a burning at times and is very uncomfortable. Sometimes it happens when I'm nursing and sometimes not.

That happened to me a lot around that time.  It slowly got better & was almost all the way gone by 2 months PP.  I think it's your body's way of telling you it thinks it's time for LO to eat.

It could be normal, but for me, painful stinging (which recurs from time to time - I'm 6 months pp) is related to nipple vaso spasm. If the tipe of your nipple is white after a feeding or pumping (called blanching), it could be this. If so, I'd check with your LC, there is heat therapy and medication to help.

Do you leak when it happens if you aren't feeding at the time? Could be letdown sensation. Totally normal and you'll get used to it.

I leak a lot. I'll have to see if it happens at the same time. Thanks.

I had this. My Dr prescribed "magic nipple cream". Its a combo of antibiotic, anti fungal, and one other ingredient. It works!

Yeah I just realized after reading your post again and the previous posts that this is totally the letdown sensation!  I remember feeling this and wondering why it felt like my nipples were getting hard, but a way more tingly sensation.  Yep, normal and you'll get used to it.

The magic nipple ointment was for the sting that I had in the beginning from just getting used to breast feeding.

I have that ointment as well. But i think youre right, its let down.
