Stupid newb question

I'm going to start with prefolds/covers and a few pockets soon, and just today I was wondering if it's possible to use prefolds with an empty pocket diaper as the cover? If not, I definitely won't be sad to have to buy that much more cuteness...and it might not even be practical anyway. I'm just curious, haha!
