Helpful tip for CS mamas

Turns out, at a lot of hospitals you can request the catheter AFTER you get your spinal block. A little more time in the OR, but I'd imagine a lot less discomfort. But, you might have to ask. If a nurse tries to cath you before, you have the right to request the delay. Hope that helps!

Re: Helpful tip for CS mamas

  • Very true. A lot of it depends on the doctor. Some are okay waiting for the cath, but some want the mom as close to ready as possible and don't like to wait for the catheter to be inserted in the OR.

  • I had the catheter inserted after the cs in the OR. If I need another I'll request the same.

  • I was actually going to ask the csection board about this. With my first they put the catheter in before the spinal, I was in labor so I don't remember it much. But this time I'm hoping they will do it after. Good to know that I can request it, I'm going to ask my OB at my next appointment.
