Is anyone 'interviewing' a pediatrician before they deliver? At how many weeks do you plan on meeting with them? Do you have any specific questions?
I am hopefully going to a pediatrician that a few people have recommendedso I am pretty confident I will like the doctor....but I was curious if anyone has any advice!
Thanks! Sorry if this is a burp. I don't log on everyday and honestly haven't read a thread on this yet. If anyone has a clicky to this previously asked question feel free to post it!
I am! The doctor that comes highly recommended to us holds monthly
info sessions for parentstobe. We are either going to be placed in the
June or July meeting depending on when the lady calls me back with the
specifics. Here are a few questions I have so far:What are the office hours? Are there evening/weekend hours?
How soon in advance do you need to schedule appointments?
Vaccination schedule
View on breastfeeding. Is there an LC on staff?
View on when to start solids
How do they handle sick visits vs well visits.
Who do you call after hours? How do they handle emergencies?
How many pedis are in the practice? Will you constantly see someone
different or be assigned to one?
I think these are all great questions. I actually met with our pediatrician today and talked about the baby. My two older kids had a well visit anyway. He has hospital rights at the hospital I'm delivering at and will come and see the baby after he's born. I would add that to the list of questions, are you affiliated with a hospital and if so, which one?

I'm meeting with one tomorow, I'm not really sure what to ask or how it works but I guess I will find out. The hospital I'm delivering at requires that you have a pediatrician picked and an appointment set before you are discharged.

Ask if they have separate waiting areas for sick patients vs. those there for well visits. It didn't occur to me to ask and I had to bring DD in when she was 24 hours old for her first visit since I had delivered at a birth center and didn't stay overnight. I was not pleased that they had me wait with a brand new baby in the same waiting room as snotty toddlers in the middle of winter.
